I would like to mention about the features that you should have a good player,

the source that will get easier is through many games (correct choice opponents with good level), clubs (coaches), tournaments (live-online).

I believe one of the features is the talent.

I think experince is more important than talent in this gam. Talent makes it a lot easier, but a player who played 100.000 games will for sre be a very good player.

Of course max, many games help but not enough.

Νot only when the player is playing but also when watching.

I reported the talent as one of the elements to you should have a player stratego.

ι expect the other players to write.

especially the very good players, but not only.

I think he is asking:

a ) What qualities are necessary to be a good Stratego player?

b ) How does playing Stratego improve certain characteristics or qualities in you - and how are those improvements manifested (in real life, in other games, etc.)?

How can I help you?

I agree that experience is a key element for success in this game. The more you play the better you become. i remember in the beginning I had a phase where I lost a lot just because I didn't master the 2 square rule, was always in the wrong diagonal. then I learned first how to not get trapped in such 2square situation and then later I even started to be able to apply it in my favor.

Then I had a phase where I was absolutely sure that all the secret to win was in the setup with lots of bombs around the flag, bomb traps in the corners, marshall to defend on one side and general + spy on the other, scout in front etc... but with time I learned that a setup is only good if you have the right defense there where your opponent is attacking (for example spy on same side where the marsh is coming, general where colonel are attacking etc... which is a part of luck. Then I learned that the less your setup is predictable the more confusion it will create in the mind of your opponent. Obvious setups and obvious moves for example moving a weak piece followed by a strong piece are not good because your opponent will shortly understand your tactics and may directly attack your weak piece without having to scout it first (and so saving some scouts and sergeants for the end of the game). In fact the only thing important with setups is to make sure not to make a bad setup. Typically if you put bombs in first 2 rows on both right and left side is not good becasue you will have difficulty to organize your moves and attacks and your opponent can easily trap you on the side of these bombs.

Then I had the chance to play against some top 20 ranked players and (of course I lost) but I learned some other tactics and some original ways to trap  a piece. In addition I saw that top players are almost excellent in moving pieces when there is only a few  pieces left on the board. Even if they are behind 1 or 2 pieces they master the field and the moves in such a way that they find a way to bring their miner to your flag. This is where I'm now, not perfect in all moves but definitely improving my experience after each game, specially at the end of the game where a single wrong move can cost you the victory.

Another thing about top 20 players: it look like they observe your moves more than their own moves, so they get an ability to understand what the piece you are moving is while they are still moving a piece that you have no idea what it could be

any similar experience made by other players?

Yo, it's easy if you play a scout cuz' you make him doubt.

But if you're facing a silver captain, be sure he's someone who tries to drain you out!

This game's about how you fake your crowd, bluff moves in order to take him out

and if the slightest gain is found,...then it can cost you the game so no mistakes allowed!

This game's about trapping your opponent so he can't escape you now

if you rage around on his sacred ground so that he can't evade the town!

Make him bow on your slaying route, the pain is OUCH....infiltrate his house

with crazy sounds and kill all his majors, scouts.....every pawn he plays is out

cuz' you will break 'em down and your opponent will lose his faith for now!

There are a thousand ways to crown...

yourself as a good player and perhaps to become the greatest, wow... :D
