I never said that the system won’t match players with a difference of more than 677 points.  Only that if it did the higher rated player would get 0 points for a win and lose 25 for a loss.  I think that in practice this situation is quite rare, or it's possible it was programmed not to occur, I’m not sure.  Perhaps a top player can comment if this situation has ever happened to him/her.

The use of the number 400 is arbitrary.  So is the starting point of 100 that this site uses.  If these numbers were different then players on the leader board would have a different rating, but their ranking would still be in the exact same order!  So the choice of these numbers does not affect ranking among players.  I suppose 400 is a good choice because it provides a nice spread in the ratings, with few big gaps in between players, but also not too many bunches of players with the same rating.

You now should be able to compute on your own your probability of defeating SATAN-NL.  Just use the “P” formula from my last reply.  Also, as I said before, you cannot increase your rating simply by playing more games.  To close the gap on SATAN-NL you’ll need to find a way to improve your play.

I'm looking to see which ELO-range you get certain ranks?

I can't find it on the forum, is there any?

Once people are on a nice win-streak or just have a good day , it would be nice to set a goal on a certain rank/elo number to stay focused

I've created a whole topic on this one, and would say it is hard to miss if you really search for it:

ELO-scores for all leagues, including Gold and Platinum predictions

NTactical, thank you for putting this here. It is in a good place.  Whenever I want to know ranking names and their ELO's I know I can check here at The Prof's thread and find this post.  One question, just to make sure.  The ranks you list and the ELO's required to achieve those ranks are concretely what they are throughout the Silver league, but are at this point still speculative for the Gold and Platinum ranks, right?

Thanks again,

Gary

Thanks, it is hard to search when you can't do a 3 character search on this site..

Yes. Although I have very high confidence these values are the actual ones! However, as nobody has ever seen Gold Scout and higher as target-range, these values have yet to be confirmed.

Furthermore, the developers may have made mistakes (read waterfall's post and my reply of today in the referred thread) due to hardcoding (handwritten within code instead of using a formula/calculations) the values, but one can use the values I published as ones goals, as they will most likely be correct.
