Champions League 2016 - Group Results & Tables
Posted 09 September 2016 - 03:01 PM
For those interested in how the withdrawal or disqualification of a player (who had already played at least one match) affects the scoring in their group, this is fairly complex to summarise briefly, but any player who has a NR (No Result) is treated to have earned a range of 1 to 6 points.
This process is explained fully in Rule 24 (http://forum.strateg...urnament-rules/)
Players highlighted in Gold in the Group Tables above have qualified in first place.
Players highlighted in Silver in the Group Tables above have qualified in second place.
Player highlighted in Green in the Group Tables above was awarded qualification spot as the best placed 3rd-placed player.

Finalised Group Tables updated.
Now follows in the interest of transparency an explanation of all the key decisions made in the Group Phase.
Where a player withdrew from the tournament, or was disqualified, this match was deemed a no-result. A no-result is treated as a range of 1-6 points, with the tie-breaker for players whose point ranges overlap decided by the mutual result between the two players. Thus in the case of Group 7, the result between mrbrainiac and spyros determined the group winner. This was also the case in Group 8 (with KARAISKAKIS finishing above Napoleon 1er), in Group 10 (with Enigma finishing above CLEVERMIND), and in Group 15 (with THEE_ASSASSIN finishing above robmatthews15).
The players that withdrew during the Group Stage were gpet0 (Week 3), Fairway and chefwd76 (Week 5), due to availability issues - These players will remain eligible to participate in future TC tournaments
MisterTimRules also withdrew (Week 6). This player will not be eligible to participate in TC tournaments for the remainder of the season.
The players that were disqualified from the tournament were Bhope (Week 3) and Carlo Magno (Week 4) - neither of these players made any contact with TC at any time during the tournament. Zatanna was disqualified (Week 5) after a sustained absence, as was trickz (Week 5) after conviction of abusive behaviour. None of these players will be eligible to participate in TC tournaments for the remainder of the season.
In Week 6 SilverFox was disqualified from Group 16. Although SilverFox was poised to qualify, he did not abide by tournament rules and TC were left with no choice but to disqualify the player after a sustained absence. SilverFox did get in contact immediately after the disqualification, but only on the Sunday evening of the last week. TC will consider whether this player can be granted leniency and participate in the remainder of the season, as this player explained that he relies on e-mail notifications for PM alerts. (This explanation did not impact the decision of disqualification as firstly all players have already been informed about the broken notifications, secondly it is the player's responsibility to check the forum, and thirdly claiming ignorance in relation to the final group game is not an acceptable explanation given the long published schedule and the obvious requirement to play all your group games in the allocated time).
In Group 16, following the no-result with zoografos and SilverFox, astros and zoografos also played a tie-breaker to determine the group winer.
In Group 2, Moghedien and LAZZLO tied on points, and drew in their game together, so an additional tie-breaker match was played to determine second place. This was also the case in Group 6 between sevenseas and pasxalistz.
In Group 12, 3 players finished level on points but their position could be distinguished from the mutual results between the tied players - maxroelofs had beaten both the other tied players so finishing in 2nd, ahead of Yellowhat in 3rd (who had beaten scottrussia in their match).
There were two cases of games that TC awarded a no-result which hadn't been a consequence of a no-show or disqualification. This was firstly the case between Enigma and gmits, whereby both players abided by the rules and were unable to play at the default time, without an agreement being made.
Secondly this was the case between Vap0r and KARAISKAKIS, whose game did take place on the weekend but resulted in KARAISKAKIS getting booted from the game. Given the lack of time to re-schedule (which was offered by Vap0r), and given that both players had abided by the rules, and given thirdly that the result would have no effect on group standings this game was also declared a no-result.
As Group 13 was reduced to just two players, and GaryLShelton additionally indicated that he would reject any qualification on the grounds that he had lost both matches, TC decided to award the final qualification to the best-placed non-qualifier, rather than move forward with a Last 32 that contained a bye. This spot went to LAZZLO who had achieved 16 points from 4 games, the best performance of any non-qualifier. TC delayed the publication of this decision in case there were multiple best-placed non qualifiers, which would cause complications in awarding the additional spot and cause TC to change their decision.
There will be some modifications to TRPS, particularly in relation to players who benefitted from the disqualifications of players - these will be announced at the end of the tournament.
If you have any questions, complaints, comments or suggestions regarding the above decisions that could inform our future decisions, we would welcome your feedback in the suggestions or questions threads, as TC aims to improve the tournament program.
Finally thank you to all the players who participated in the Champions League Groups!
