46 warriors have confirmed their registration at the Colosseum's entrance. After being splitted into groups each one will play 4 or 5 opponents, with the top three of the group qualifying to the knockout round. First place automatically gets you into the sweet sixteen, so there is a big incentive for the fighters to win their respective groups.

The tournament's favourite Hielco heads up group A. In the absence of other titans of the game such as Nortrom,OVERLORD and Sohal he is once again the favourite to win (his 8th TC title) , as given by our betting advisors. He will be challenged by Moghedien, who gave him an excellent game in the recent WT final, and roeczak, who has managed to take a draw from him in the Backstabbers tournament: it will not be an easy group stage, even from Hielco. Furthermore, tournament newcomer , but a very strong player nevertheless, Loco Luc will be joining the lot,  as well as the rising player from Patras, FGP_

Group B 's top dog is double live WC winner , playa1. He will be challenged on his road to the KO's by Great Manos and pasxalistz, two strong experienced tournament players, as well Lithuania's champ LAZZLO and two NASF players: njphillips12 who makes his return after a short break and newcomer JoeLucheesi. Everything seems open in this group for the 3 golden places .

Group C 's favourite seems to be the rising star from Greece, Major Nelson , but in particular this group seems to be one of the toughest: it seems his luck did not help him in the pairings, as he will be facing the Netherlands top junior player Master Mind in a battle of the prodigies: maybe this will settle out who deserves the Talent of the Year award. Of course scottrussia's Spartan warriors have none of this nonsense: everything will be decided in the battlefield, as this writer painfully knows. Serres' highest-ranked player IOLAUS1926 will also be fighting fiercely for qualification, as will hellinon who has performed really well despite being a newcomer. Vspy13 decided to stop a little with the coaching (he is the father of OVERLORD) and start playing: let's see how this turns out. An all-star group guarantees some highly interesting games.

Group D sees Napoleon 1er, the top player from Switzerland (as he is practicing for the live WC in the summer) taking on Athens' don mitsos, who is on fire after winning a live tournament as well as the shady greek player GFighter. Panther65, the current German champion in live play, will try to make it to the top as well. PHAETHON is one of the many warriors looking for their big moment in this tournament; underestimate him, and your hopes of winning are suddenly vanishing .

Group E 's pairings mean a battle between the old guard of Greece: gpet0 will be taking on KARAISKAKIS in a must-watch game. Newcomer Jesus_saves somehow made it to lot number 3, and he will try to make the best of it in an attempt to pass the group stage of his first tournament. Of course Luckypapa, as well as Greek talents jimmys13 and macedoniagr , will try their best to stop him. Everyone can beat everyone in this well-formed group .

Group F : if F stands for fire, then that is a nice name for this group which is , in the writer's opinion , one of most exciting and open groups of the entire Champions League, and we will definitely be seeing some fire on the Stratego boards in some games. Texaspete09 is the favourite, but he will have a hard time making out alive. Henry domerkant, recent WT bronze medalist, as well as experienced fighters tobermoryx and Kambia, all look to shatter his hopes of first place. VENOM88 from the US is also hopeful , as is the Greek rising player damon13, who has made some nice victories in recent games.

The battle in Group G will also be quite fierce: Belgian top player leppie will face-off against NASF's astros, with another American in steelers also in contention for the group's throne. Dalee, however, is making a hopeful return to online tournaments and so is queenbee1 . Capt.gunter, another Belgium player, closes this group off. Only three of those six warriors will make it to the next stage.

Finally. Group H is also filled with players who hope for the best. TheOptician is nominally the favourite, but things won't be easy for him facing four other platinum players(!): Aris1970 from Greece, AWFly from Germany, Fks from the US (well he's trying to deceive us by continuously resetting his account but yes, he is a platinum player and one to watch out for this tournament) as well as fighter68, also from Deutschland. Balorion , another player who lives in Germany, makes it six for this group as well.

Once again the Colosseum is filled with hope and desire to win from the warriors, but only one of them will get rid of his fears, control his emotions, outwit everyone and survive all the way to the end.

Good luck to all participants !!

After a fine opening ceremony tonight, which featured jugglers and yoga-experts, Moghedien continued where he left off in WinterTourn with a victory against Loco Luc. The French newcomer has had a hostile reception after some players had doubts about his identity, but a member of TC earlier commented that he was 'satisfied' with Loco Luc's responses when questioned about aliases.

On a quiet peaceful morning a stranger rode into town.  He was from a land far far away - so far that few of the children and women had any idea of who he might be.  But the old Spartan Warriors knew.  Suddenly their muscles became taunt, teeth ground together, eyes narrowed.  Evil had returned to the peaceful Spartan Nation.  This was a messenger from the kingdom of CFLAG!!!!!

The old warriors had been part of the great army that had destroyed CFLAG's grand alliance many many moons ago.  Spartan Warriors had lived in peace ever since.  CFLAG could find no more allies and he himself was certainly not going to march his army to face Spartan Warriors.  Had so much time passed?  Was there a great famine?  Did CFLAG have that much gold?

Regardless, they didn't bother to gather to listen, they knew what this meant.  Some women and small children gathered in front of the town square to hear what this messenger would say.  Soon they realized it was a messenger from CFLAG - demanding surrender and servitude!  The women beat him until an old warrior interceded and said it was better to send the messenger back to CFLAG than to kill him.  Let CFLAG see that even our women are prepared to fight for freedom!

So the call went out.  Spartan Warriors came.  And the Spartan Warrior army.........went on the march!!!!

Soon Spartan Warriors intercepted scouts from VSPY13's army and they admitted that they were aligned with the new CFLAG alliance!   They told of many armies aligning with CFLAG!  Mastermind, Major Nelson, IOLAUS1926, Hellinon, and VSPY13 have all joined CFLAG!!!  Why?  What good could come from this?  Word was sent to VSPY to renounce his alliance with CFLAG and live in peace with Spartan Warriors.  VSPY replied that he CFLAG promised half of the Spartan Warrior kingdom to his army and he was prepared to fight!

So Spartan Warriors quickly marched to intercept VSPY's army.  Spartan Warriors came upon them in an open field with forests on the left flank.  Spartan Warriors attacked the left flank, VSPY seemed very concerned with this move and sent scouts to try to find an avenue to counterattack Spartan Warriors..... but the attack never came.  Soon Spartan Warriors had seized the offensive and sent more troops to support the assault.  The left flank was effectively in Spartan Warriors control!  Soon Spartan Warriors seized upon their advantage and exploited their dominant position on the battlefield.  VSPY was trapped!  Spartan Warriors continued the overwhelming pressure until VSPY sent word that his army had had enough.  He realized that CFLAG was not going to be sending reinforcements and that no other alliance members were going to march to his aid.  Spartan Warriors accepted his surrender with the promise of never aligning with CFLAG again.

So CFLAG has a new grand alliance.  Spartan Warriors were living in peace.  But now, having had evil visit our great kingdom yet again .............................................................................................................................................

SPARTAN WARRIORS ARE ON THE MARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Days 2, 3 and 4 of Champions League 2018 saw 7 more games played, all from three groups.

In Group C, Spartan warriors got off a winning start against vspy13, Master Mind defeated hellinon, and Major Nelson and IOLAUS1926 finished all square in the tournament's first draw. The early results justify this group's labelling by locals as this year's 'group of death'.

In Group D, top seed Napoleon1er came through unscathed against PHAETHON, whilst panther65 took down don mitsos.

macedoniagr continued his impressive tournament form by defeating talented newcomer Jesus_saves, whilst KARAISKAKIS got the points against jimmys 13.

Spectators at the Champions League 2018 have been treated to a feast of Stratego with 17 games in the past 4 days.

In Group B, 2nd seed playa1 got off the mark with two victories in three days against LAZZLO and pasxalistz. 15th seed Great Manos followed suit with a similar achievement, defeating LAZZLO and njphillips12 for his two wins.

in Group C, 14th seed Master Mind made it 2 from 2 after victory against IOLAUS1926.

GFighter managed a victory in his opening Group D game against PHAETHON, whilst in Group E 12th seed KARAISKAKIS continued his winning start with a win against Luckypapa

Group F participants have run into some scheduling difficulties, but there were opening wins for both 11th seed Henry domerkant and 6th seed texaspete09 - both against Kambia

Group G has shown early that it will be a difficult one to progress from - dalee defeated 7th seed leppie, whilst Capt.gunter took down steelers. Ensuring the Champions League is no picnic, players from the lowest seeding pool have now won 4 out of their 6 opening games.

In Group H, 8th seed TheOptician made it 2 wins from 2 against AWFLY, whilst Fks grabbed victory over 9th seed Aris1970. fighter68 also got off the mark with victory in his first game against Balorion.

And last but by no means last - after roeczak defeated FGP_ in Group A, local journalists announced the first NEWSFLASH as Top seed Hielco was overcome by Loco Luc, ending his 100% record in Champions League group games stretching back 14 games and 4 years.

Here at the Champions League 2018 we are now 11 days into the tournament, and the pot is beginning to boil.

After defeating VSPY Spartan Warriors realized that an offensive was going to be required to try to cut off CFLAG's new alliance from joining their armies together.

Major Nelson had already sent an advance army looking for his new allies.  So Spartan Warriors decided to make the long march to Major Nelson's kingdom to launch a surprise attack.  After a long week of marching Spartan Warriors entered the kingdom of Major Nelson and soon found his main army dug in.  No matter, Spartan Warriors decided to assault the right flank.  Progress was slow as Major Nelson had heavily fortified the flank.  Spartan Warriors gained a foothold and pressed forward and seemed to have the momentum.  But Spartan Warriors began to pay the price for immediately entering battle after the long march.  Mistakes were made and we didn't fully exploit our advance.  Major Nelson sent reinforcements and stopped the advance!

Soon the battle bogged down.  Major Nelson's advance army finally showed up and positioned themselves behind Spartan Warrior's flank attack!  But, his advance army didn't try to exploit the situation!  Spartan Warriors maneuvered to contain the threat and free up a brigade for further attack on the left flank!  But as this happened a great fog enveloped the battlefield.  The plan to attack the left flank wasn't communicated to our reinforcements there and our attacking troops didn't exploit the advantage and worse, became lost and marched directly into a Cirque - and Major Nelson easily destroyed our advancing troops.

Spartan Warriors made the rare decision to remove themselves from the battlefield and march out of Major Nelson's kingdom.  The battle was lost, but Spartan Warriors inflicted enough pain that Major Nelson's army is unlikely to march away from their kingdom to aid MasterMind and CFLAG's other allies!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Congrats to Major Nelson!

The die-hard spectators of the Champions League 2018 feel the tension is increasing as the battles between seeds #1 and #2 from 7 groups are likely to be concluded this week. Meanwhile, they're still excited by last week's results.

In Group A, Loco Luc, who won against Hielco in Week 3, continued his streak beating FGP_. In the main time, roeczak, who finished #3 in the Greek Championships, managed to beat draw king Moghedien, what makes him the only player with a perfect score in his group.

In Group B, world-champion playa1 continued his perfect streak beating JoeLucchesi. However, he will be facing Great Manos this round, who also has a 2-out-of-2 score. Furthermore, pasxalistz beat JoeLucchesi. Spectators from group B will have a hard time watching all the games this week, as 5 games are being scheduled.

In Group C, top seed Major Nelson defeated his fellow Greek player vspy13. IOLAUS1926 beat hellinon, but hellinon quickly made sure he gathered his lost points again by winning against vspy13. Although these fierce Greek battles, Spartan Warriors weren't heard this round...

In Group D, seed #4, panther65, is doing absolutely great, winning against PHAETHON and ensuring his perfect streak. don mitsos scored his first win against GFighter. As the top 3 seeds are all drawn together with 1 win and 1 loss, we are curious to find out what the battle between Napoleon 1er and don mitsos for this round will result in.

In Group E, competition is getting extraordinary fierce with 2 players winning all 3 of their games - KARAISKAKIS and macedoniagr. Especially the latter proved he is someone to be reckoned with by defeating top seed gpet0. However, gpet0 managed to get down Jesus_saves, which does not make an end to his expectations. Meanwhile, KARAISKAKIS beat Jesus_saves while Luckypapa got lucky defeating jimmys13.

In Group F, things went very quiet this week with 2 smooth draws - texaspete09 has drawn against damon13, and Henry domerkant has drawn tobermoryx. Although texaspete09 is still in the run with 15 points, Group F is the only group with no players with a perfect score.

In Group G, Capt.gunter did not manage to maintain his good 1st round streak, as both leppie and astros defeated him. Still, astros did not hold against his US mate steelers. With the match between seed #1 and seed #2 postponed to Week 5, spectators are getting more and more excited.

Finally, in Group H, TheOptician is the only one with a perfect score, beating Balorion, followed by Fks, who beat German top player fighter68 this round. Aris1970 managed to beat fighter68's countrymen AWFly. As Aris1970 still has to play 3 matches, nothing is yet to be said in this group.

Here at Champions League 2018, with 13 days to go, fun is about to start. Good luck to all!

Word spread quickly amongst CFLAG's allies of Major Nelson's victory and the remaining allies assumed that the Spartan Warrior army would retreat to our kingdom to try to raise more troops.  But little did they know that the Spartan Warrior army had turned east and marched directly to Hellinon's kingdom!!!!  While surprised to encounter the Spartan Warrior army, Hellinon refused to renounce his allegiance to CFLAG and live in peace.  Hellinon asked to enter into "negotiations" with Spartan Warriors and demanded Spartan land in exchange for him not fighting for CFLAG.

HA!  Spartan Warriors would give not one speck of Spartan dust to a CFLAG ally or anyone else!!!!!  Spartan Warriors saw this for what it was - stalling and delaying, Hellinon undoubtedly had sent messengers to Major Nelson to come and join the fight.  Spartan Warriors told Hellinon to surrender or face the Spartan sword!!!!!

Soon Hellinon launched a surprise attack on the Spartan Right Flank!!!  But the Spartan line held firm and Hellinon did not try to continue the advance once he found resistance.  Soon Spartan Warriors counterattacked and destroyed the very flank of strength from which Hellinon intended to win the fight!!!!

Hellinon turned his army to launch an attack on the left flank but again the Spartan line held.  Soon Spartan Warriors had identified all the attacking units of Hellinon and countered the offensive.  Waves of Hellinon troops were repulsed and Spartan Warriors captured key units left stranded on the left flank.  Hellinon attempted to trap Spartan regiments from the advance on the right flank but was unsuccessful!!!!  Soon the battle bogged down.  Hellinon attempted to exploit his numeric superiority but Spartan Warriors had none of it.

Soon Spartan Warriors maneuvered to forge an attack directly up the middle of the battlefield.  At first it appeared that Hellinon had used tricks to stop the advance but some smart maneuvering from Spartan Warriors freed up even more troops!!!  Soon Spartan Warriors were storming the Hellinon headquarters and his last desperate attacks found nothing but useless bombs!!!!  Spartan Warrior finished off the battle by overrunning the headquarters and Hellinon's flag fell!!!!!!

Word spread throughout Hellinon's kingdom that Spartan Warriors had defeated Hellinon and the people celebrated their freedom!!!  His remaining outposts were taken over by his own subjects, tired of years of CFLAG-like oppressive rule.  They pledged freedom for all and to become an important supplier of iron and wood for the Spartan Army!!!!!!!!!

MasterMind and IOLAUS1926  - you have to ask yourself - where was Major Nelson?  Has he had enough of Spartan Warriors?  Where was CFLAG?  His gold will not help you on the battlefield against Spartan Warriors - in fact we distributed all of CFLAG's gold that he gave to Hellinon to his freed subjects!!!!!  Lay down you swords and renounce your alliance with CFLAG!!!!!

Because everyone knows that...........................................................................

12 games remain in the Champions League 2018 Group Stage. Here we take a look at what is at stake in the last batch of games.

Group A

Qualified: Hielco, roeczak, Loco Luc

Winner of Hielco v roeczak takes top spot. Should Hielco win then roeczak and Loco Luc will have a play-off for second place. A roeczak victory or draw would see Loco Luc take second.

Group B

Qualified: 1st playa1 2nd Great Manos 3rd pasxalistz

playa1 is one of only 3 players remaining with a 100% record so far. The Top 3 are already decided, but either njphillips12 or Joe Lucchesi can take 4th place should they manage an upset in their final games against playa1 and Great Manos respectively.

Group C

Qualified: 1st Major Nelson

Down to the wire in Group C. Master Mind can secure 2nd place with a draw or better against scottrussia. The Spartan Warriors need to win one of their two remaining games against Master Mind or IOLAUS1926 to guarantee qualification, whilst IOLAUS1926 will qualify if he beats scottrussia

Group D

Qualified: panther65, don mitsos

Napoleon1er takes on GFighter in the crunch game in Group D. With a win GFighter would top the group and eliminate Napoleon1er. Should Napoleon1er manage the victory then he would take 3rd place with panther65 taking 1st place in the Group.

Group E

Qualified: KARAISKAKIS, macedoniagr, gpet0

Group Winner? The other two players who still boast a 100% record are KARAISKAKIS and macedoniagr. The player who wins their duel tomorrow will take top spot. Should they draw, then macedoniagr would need to beat Luckypapa to set-up a tie for second and a play-off. Strangely all the positions are already decided in this group with 3 games still to play. Jesus_Saves won his last two games to take 4th in the group ahead of Luckypapa.

Group F

Qualified: 1st texaspete09, 2nd Henry domerkant, 3rd damon13

The award for the first group to complete their fixtures goes to participants of Group F. Henry domerkant managed to take second place ahead of damon13 with a win this evening, with texaspete09 taking top spot. Tobermoryx grabbed 4th place.

Group G

The tightest group of the Champions League 2018 has lived up to its name. With still three games to play, everyone can qualify. The faint possibility of a 5 way tie is steadily increasing, which might well cause TC to keel over. Capt.gunter is in the clubhouse with 14 points, but will have to wait for other results. steelers must beat dalee to remain in the competition - that game is on Friday. Early indicators in the match pms point to a Sunday night special to raise the roof of the Champions League arena. leppie can guarantee top spot with victory over astros - who will have other ideas himself.

Group H

Qualified:1st TheOptician, 2nd Fks

Only one match remains in Group H - both of whom are looking to grab the last remaining qualifying spot. Aris1970 takes on fighter68, in what has been the longest running attempted match in tournament history. Paired together in Week 1, these players have met multiple times but never got past the red screen of death, causing TC to issue an 'official emergency' this week. With TheOptician topping the group, and Fks taking second, all is to play for in the final game.

Soon after defeating Hellinon, Spartan Warriors marched north and met the combined forces of IOLAUS and MasterMind!!!

Great treachery soon was evident.  "Unknown" Marshall killed by spies???  Poisoned food???  Starving women and children as shields????  What kind of new allies has CFLAG found????

The seemingly final blow was when Spartan Warriors charged through the "impenetrable" MasterMind defenses and across the great bridge into his capital only to have an earthquake hit and the Spartan Warrior army thrown into the great river below!!!!  MasterMind and IOLOUS celebrated that night................but their armies kept taking glances down into the river................so far down.............the river so fierce...... no one had ever survived..... but still.........

As Mastermind and IOLOUS awoke the following morning a messenger galloped into the capital, his horse collapsing and throwing him into the dirt.  Silence set it.  The soldier was bound and gagged?????  Terror filled his eyes?????  Soon he was untied and Mastermind demanded he speak!!!!  Our great southern fortress has been overrun the soldier cried!!!!  What?????  Who?????  How????  There were only Spartan Warriors marching against us and they all were thrown into the river by the gods Proclaimed MasterMind!!!!

Yes, replied the soldier - Spartan Warriors came out of the river and immediately attacked!!!!  Impossible said MasterMind - the fortress is 30 miles downstream!  No one could have survived the fall into the river!  No one could swim downstream and attack!  Speak the truth soldier or you'll be banished from the kingdom!!  Strangely this calmed the man, relief spread across his face... and Mastermind's soldiers realized that indeed he was speaking the truth... and their souls were filled with dread, faces filled with fear.

The soldier replied......... The truth is........... that.....

SPARTAN WARRIORS ARE STILL ON THE MARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Congrats to MM and IOLOUS and Thank you to those that are running the tournament. Best of luck to all going forward.

The Last 24 was complete yesterday as Napoleon 1er defeated GFighter to grab third place in Group D.  Prior to that fighter68 took third place in Group H by beating Aris1970.

One of the big talking points in the Stratego Media was the 9-move draw which took place between leppie and astros in the final Group C game, and the resulting concession of the play-off by astros. steelers was hit hardest by the agreement, as capt.gunter took third place on head-to-head. Campaigners have already called for TC to take steps to prevent collusion in the final round of the Group Stages.

The weekend is more jam-packed than a jam sandwich, with seven of the 8 games in the Last 24 lined up to occur. One hard-core fan actually has tickets to all of the weekends games, though he will have to sprint between arenas to catch the action in time.

Master Mind v Napoleon 1er (Saturday 1230GMT)

roeczak v pasxalistz (Saturday 1300GMT)

Henry domerkant v Capt.gunter  (Saturday 1900GMT)

Incredibly all 7 games played over the last few days saw the player who finished second in their group beating the player who finished 3rd.

Master Mind dumped 4th seed Napoleon 1er out of the cup to set up a date with leppie.

macedoniagr prevailed in a classic derby against damon13 - his reward is Hielco.

astros defeated fighter68 to win a table for two with Major Nelson.

roeczak came out on top against pasxalistz (he will play KARAISKAKIS) whilst Henry domerkant booked a duel with playa after defeating Capt.gunter.

5th seed gpet0 was knocked out by don mitsos who will now visit TheOptician, whilst Great Manos secured his place in the Last 16 after beating IOLAUS1926 - to set up a match with texaspete09.
