You have to invite him as a friend. When he is your friend and he is online, you can click on his avatar and challenge him.

I just want to give TC thanks for letting me off the first two weeks, and say that I will participate in the 3rd week on.

Since I will have to play more than one game a week to catch up, what should I do now to make that happen?

Hi,

I said I will be absent for the first week, but up to now I haven't received any PM for arrangements of matches.

Best,

mrbrainiac

mrbrainiac,

I sent you a PM about this 5 days ago but it is saying it is unread. MT have also informed me that there may be some issues with players receiving notifications, so this may be affecting players who are not aware that they have received messages.

Gary,

You will get a PM for match arrangements. This question is coming up a lot so let me clarify that everyone will receive a pm through which to arrange their match. If you haven't got a pm yet this is because you don't have a match scheduled yet (due to absences of players in certain weeks)

Where can you find the results of the played games in the poules?

Good question. Results and Group Tables can now be viewed here:

Results will be updated periodically (but won't be 'live')...

I have not received a game pm for this week. What day are they sent out? The last person on my group I have to play is Carlo Magno. Is he a no show? Is that why I haven't received a pm yet?

Just to let you know something you're already probably aware of, but there's no group 12 or group 14 listed. There are two groups 11 and 13, however.

Gary,

Thanks for informing of the typo, this will be amended when results are updated tomorrow.

You don't have a game scheduled this week. If Carlo Magno does not show up this week he will be disqualified, which means you will have played all (2) of your games.

Players not showing up is unfortunately an issue in a format such as the Champions League. It's something that we would like to address but don't really know how to solve at this moment. It is inevitable that with almost 80 registrations there will be a few who do not attend. TC are open to suggestions that would in future reduce the impact of a player withdrawing or being disqualified from a group after the draw has been made. Currently some players get to play 4 group games, whereas in your case it may only be 2.

My suggestion would be to make people confirm in the final week that they are still in.  Have open registration for however long, closing a week before the pools are drawn and the tournament starts.  Then send a PM to everyone registered to make them confirm.  If they don't confirm within the 1 week period prior to the tournament, they are removed.  It wouldn't eliminate no shows, but I think it would cut down a lot.

You shouldn't have to babysit players who have signed up. There are penalties for no shows in place already and everyone should know that after reading the rules. You have enough on your plate at startup time if everyone acts like an adult in my opinion. Behavior below that should reap its reward, that's all.

Now, someone might have a good reason, and we can all accept that, since real life does indeed happen outside this website's walls. It is why the penalties need to be firm but not vindictive, and enforced but with an understanding hand.

It could be an option that if a drop out was a one or two seed then TC would only be obligated to give one seat for that group to the advancement stage. TC would have to be in full agreement that a third place contestant from another group is better fit based on performance, reputation or elo.

If there was a dispute between TC then a playoff match could determine the seat.

Thanks for your suggestions.

steelers,

Your suggestion is something that was considered.
Requiring players to confirm their registration immediately prior to the draw would solve the problem in one sense but would likely end up also removing many players (who weren't active in the forum for a short period but would have later been able to participate). I think that living with one or two disqualifications remains the better option, when compared with the possibility of losing a large chunk of players who don't (or can't) manage an additional confirmation in the last few days.

Wogomite,

I don't think it is fair to punish any player (by changing the terms of qualification) within a particular group purely because a player (regardless of seeding) was disqualified. A select number of players will of course benefit from any disqualification, but in the context of the tournament this still has a very small impact.
