Hello,

I am not really certain what the ELO is or how it works.

Could somebody give me a heads up on how this number is calculated and what all it means?

Also, is it possible to look up the ELO numbers of players I have played weeks or months ago?

I track my opponents ELOs presently but I did not when I first started playing on this site.

BTW thanks go to all who keep this site up and going.....I am enjoying it very much!!

The winner of the match takes the points of the loser.

If the players are closely matched - within about 20 pts - then , if the slightly higher rated player wins they get 12 points ,  the lower player winning would get 13 pts.

If the ratings gap is  about 40 pts though then the higher player can only win 11 and the lower player 14.

This gap in the points to be won for each player increases as the gap between the pre match ratings does . Eventually if one player is rated 577 points above his opponent then they will actually win 0 for winning that match and lose 25 with a defeat.

tobermoryx,

Thanks, that helps a bit. BTW what do the letters ELO stand for?

I'm assuming it is an acronym of sorts. Correct?

You can find the ELO of players up to date in the leaderboards you can find here

http://forum.strateg...boards/?p=41751

You will only find a Silver player in the Silver leaderboard , a Gold Player in the Gold one etc

I think you'd have to enter the precise name also.

It sounds like it must be an acronym but i think it was just invented by a guy named Elo.
