1st National team tournament 2016

Dear players,

It is an honour to officialy announce the 1st National team tournament . Hereby all the eligible players are invited to create their national teams and  participate in this event.

Sign up period and Tournament type

Players who wish to participate may register their intention to play in the related threads.

Sign up period will start on Friday 6th May and will close on Tuesday 31th May at 23.59 gmt.

Tournament type is League - all the teams play each other in x number of rounds depending on the final number of teams. (eg If there are 5 teams there will be 4 rounds)

Tournament will start on Monday 6th June. The tournament duration will depend on the number of teams (3 weeks for 3-4 teams, 5 weeks for 5-6 teams, 7 weeks for 7-8 teams etc.)

Who is eligible to play?

North American Team

All members of NASF.  http://forum.strateg...f-nasf-members/

 Greek Team

All players in the list of confirmed Greek accounts. http://forum.strateg...k-accounts-cga/

Dutch Team

All Dutch players who have already played in an official tournament on Stratego.com and have an International Stratego Ranking  http://greg.kleier.n...lsel=0&nat[]=nl

Other National teams

5 players from the same country, whose nationality is outside of North America, Greece or Netherlands, automatically form a national team. These players must have already played in an official tournament on Stratego.com and have an International Stratego Ranking.

Alliance Teams

5 players from two countries, whose nationality is outside of North America, Greece or Netherlands, may combine forces to form an Alliance Team. . Note that an Alliance Team can only be formed whereby the total number of different nationalities within the team is exactly TWO.

Rest of the World Team

The remaining players whose nationality is outside of North America, Greece or Netherlands, are eligible to form the Rest of the World Team. These players must have already played in an official tournament on Stratego.com and have an International Stratego Ranking.

(There may only be ONE Rest of the World Team)

http://greg.kleier.n...sel=0&nat[]=all

Creation of teams

Each team consists of 5 players (mandatory) plus one substitute (not mandatory).

NASF and Greek Federation may enter one team each, and will decide their own selection criteria.

All other players must sign up in the Registration thread (LINK) and mention their nationality and GMT time zone

Where there are 5 or 6 registered players with the same nationality, these players automatically form their National team.

Where there are more than 6 registered players with the same nationality, places on the National Team will be awarded to the highest 6 players on the International Stratego Ranking.(In this case, any player who does not qualify for their National Team is NOT ELIGIBLE to participate in any other team).

Players may form an Alliance Team, provided that the total number of different nationalities within the team is exactly TWO. (In such a case this decision must be announced to the Orga team before the end of the sign up period).

The highest 6 (according to the International Stratego Ranking) remaining registered players, whose nationalities are not already represented in any other team, automatically form the ''Rest of World'' team.

It is not allowed the participation of players with same nationality into 2 or more ,separate, teams

How it works

- Each round has duration of 1 week
- The Fixture list is decided before the start of the event - every team will know from the start which team they will face in each week.
- Team 1 will be the team with highest mean score, according to the International Stratego Ranking. (The International Stratego Ranking will be updated to include the results of the Masters Divisions 2015/16)

- Team 2 will be the team with the next highest mean score, and so on until all teams have been assigned a Team Number

-- In the event that a player is selected by NASF or Greek Federation, who is not listed on the International Stratego Ranking, this player will be assigned a rating of 600.

Team Members

Each team decides who will be their Captain. (In case there is no agreement - based in a majority vote - between the members of the team, the Captain will be the member of the team with the highest score on the International Stratego Ranking).

The Captain assigns each team member a number from 1 to 5. This number cannot be changed during the tournament. These numbers must be sent by PM, from the Captain of each team before the start of the tournament to an independent member of MT (This member of MT may not participate in the event)

Each match between teams will consist of 5 games. (Player 1 vs Player 1, Player 2 vs Player 2, Player 3 vs Player 3, Player 4 vs Player 4, Player 5 vs Player 5)

Scoring

In each match, 5 games are played.

Teams earn 6 game points for a win, 3 game points for a draw, and 1 game point for a loss.

These game points are then totalled up for each team to decide the outcome of each match.

The team with the most game points wins the match, and is awarded 2 match points.

The losing team is awarded 0 match points.

If two teams are tied on game points, both teams are awarded 1 match point.

After all matches have been played, teams are ordered by the total number of match points.

The team with the highest number of match points is the winner.

Tie-Break Criteria

Where two teams finish level on match points, ties are determined in the following order:

1.        The team with the highest number of total game points.

2.        The match result between the two teams

3.         If two teams have an equal number of match points, and an equal number of game points, and tied when they played each other, there will be a one-game playoff between the Captains of each team.

(Where 3 teams are tied, criteria used is total amount of game points)

Arranging a tournament game

Arrangements for Tournament games will be conducted via the Private Message facility on Stratego.com. All the teams will be contacted by the Orga team so that game arrangements can begin. The Orga team will send a new PM to each team for each round.
Rules about game arrangements (with 3 changes below) will be those that are used for SpringTourn2016:
http://forum.strateg...urn-2016-rules/

1. Curfew Change

The Curfew for providing 3 valid timeslots is Wednesday 23.59GMT (instead of Thursday 23.59GMT).

2. Cancellation Deadline Change

The deadline for cancelling matches is Thursday 15.00GMT (instead of Saturday 15.00GMT). Once Thursday 15.00GMT has passed, cancellations are NOT PERMITTED due to time constraints.

3.Change to Yellow Cards & Role of Substitutes

A player gets a yellow card in the same situations as it is described in the rules of SpringTourn 2016 tournament (http://forum.strateg...urn-2016-rules/)

When any player receives a Yellow Card, the substitute will be activated

If one player earns a first Yellow card, the substitute is activated. The substitute immediately replaces the player who received a yellow card, and will play the match instead. (Note that if a player gets a Yellow card in a Gameweek where they have already played their match, the Substitute will instead play the next match. In this case, the player who received a Yellow Card becomes the Substitute for the next Gameweek).

If one player earns a second Yellow card, this player becomes ineligible for the rest of the tournament and is automatically substituted for all remaining games. (Note that if there is no available substitute, the team must continue with one player less. This is a big disadvantage for this team, and means that the game where this team cannot provide a player is automatically lost).

If 2 (or more) players from the same team earn a (first) Yellow Card during the same round, then substitution occurs for the first player who received a Yellow Card.

In case this happens simultaneously e.g.  2 players from the same team and during the same round not provide 3 valid STRs until the curfew , substitution occurs for the player whith the less number.

The second player who received a Yellow Card is allowed to play their match without being substituted. (Note that this is the only exception to the rule ‘When any player receives a Yellow Card, the substitute will be activated’

No player may play more than one game in each Gameweek.

Tournament Committee and Judging

The Organisation Team will be responsible for managing the event up until the tournament begins on Monday 6th June.
From Monday 6th June onwards, the Tournament Committee will consist of all the Team Captains.
Should any dispute arise, decisions will be made by those Team Captains whose team is not directly involved in a dispute.
In the event that the Team Captains do not reach a decision on any matter, orga team will be asked to give the final solution. (if  , for the related game , there are involved members of the orga team these members are excluded)

Here we want to mention the very important role of the Captain.

The Captain has the responsibility to check everything with his team, and also to protect the team from any disputes that may arise during the tournament.

We advise all the teams, (in order to avoid any difficult situations), to choose as Captain the player who is the most experienced in rules and more active in forum.

Have fun on Stratego.com
