thanks- much clearer but two more questions:

1-how are rating determined(Nortrom 1905)?from past tournemant results?

2-and regarding the pairing ,how come you and Hielco were paired in round 5-if we apply the formula and the table is divided in 2 you play vs player no 20 or 21 and him something like that unless I am missing something

Pairing is done by points group first, and by ranking second. In R1, everyone starts at 0 points so for 40 players ordered by rating, pairings are #1-#21, #2-#22 ... #20-#40. After a few rounds, if there are 2 leaders, they will play each other. If they already played each other, it goes something like #1 - highest player he didn't play yet, #2 - highest player he didn't play yet. etc. Sometimes this will leave an impossible pairing at the bottom, but then the pairing algorithm starts again and will try to fix that.

See https://en.wikipedia...stem_tournament for more details.

Yes, based on previous tournaments

60 players (30/30)
30 players (15/15)
15 players (8/7)
8 players (4/4)
4 players (2/2)

When people score a draw, they no longer are in the "top group" so the match #1 vs #2 may happen earlier

Imagine that in 8 players (4/4), one draw was had.. :)
