EDIT: I DID NOT OPEN THIS THREAD. Due to a MT member moving this from the report thread, to start a discussion, it opens a thread putting me as topic starter.

I couldn't care less about the discussion.

If your posting is a name complaint, Nortrom, then you know the story of the 'idiot' thing well.  But I'm assuming your perceception here is deeper into the humor that a supposed democrat calling someone else an idiot would have such a stellar win ratio as 35%.  :D

Yeah, I'm not posting it in the " hall of funny names ".

It is a denigratory name towards at least 62,984,828 people (2016).

I'd rather you just follow the procedure of opening a case and posting back the verdict, rather than making a poor attempt at trying to be funny.

Actually, that's too bad we don't have such a place. It probably does belong in the 'Hall of Funny Names'. But no, you're serious? LoL. You're a hard one to figure, my friend. Kind of like when a certain reversal meant a certain return. Guess that's the second time I misunderstood you.

But specific to this complaint, you would like us to open a case having the name 'RepublicanIdiots'?

Okay then, before I open a case for discussion within the MT on this, I would like to ask you a question as it will help us along.

You've given a statistic on the number of Republicans in the world or wherever who might be offended. But what case, specifically, would you make that 'Idiots' here is any different than the MR ICEBERG affair where it was then clearly explained, by yourself, that the MT did not hold the word 'idiot' to be problematic for the MT?

If a player cannot be held offensive for the use of the word 'idiot' in BattleChat, can he be held offensive if he uses it in his username?

Gary, I really don't understand sometimes.

------------------------------------------------

Almost always, the MT rules more harshly on renames and username content than the actual content of battlechat abuse. I'd assume this is because battlechat content is said to only one person, while a username is available for all to see.

Case opened, Nortrom.

Not really correct. What I said was:

1) Reevaluate a certain case

2) Some other stuff

3) Some other stuff

4) There needs to be a public explanation of what took place, who did what and why. I'm fairly sure this one hasn't been fulfilled.

And after that (especially #1 and #4) I would reconsider. You let the time tick, and that's ok, but you know what the consequences are.

Up to you guys. I don't really care for the idiot thing. I'm just posting what I came across

Small thing:  because of mod action to move the report, it appears as if I created this topic, which is not the case. Would like to see this fixed.

You were the first to post on the subject so that when it was moved, yes, it does place your name as the topic starter. That cannot be helped, though the name of the topic could be adjusted. But as you would be the first to say reporting threads should remain clear of tangential discussions, I'm sure you appreciate the move away from the official topic.

Ok, I'll just clarify that in the first post then.

Yes, they should be. It is a pity to see that this is being done selectively.

So you now loudly state in bold red that you do not care about the discussion? Then why did you bring up the complaint? If you care more about the location and structure of the discussion on the matter you brought up, which has simply been moved into a sub-area you pushed the design for, then I guess it's indeed not a very important matter.

I mean that I don't care for a discussion on this topic. I came across this name, reported it. You guys can decide whatever you want to do with it.

Also explained here, already.

Because my name is the topic starter, I wanted to clarify that I do not care for a discussion on this topic, the matter is simply, imo, too insignificant. Hope that clears it up.

I think you are arguing for nothing my friends, MT will judge the case as Fairway has written that's all we need to know ;)

Use of the word 'idiot' has been a touchy subject in recent months. It was clearly adjudicated not to be an issue by Nortrom when he was a part of the MT, a position I agreed with. Yet here we are with a case against that word in a username, and brought by Nortrom, who says he's not interested in the discussion?

That makes for a great big Hmm.

In a very heated, at times, public conversation on this word in the MR ICEBERG case, where a certain player received a WP for his related comments and Nortrom left the MT, both events stemming from the use of this word in BattleChat, this single word has caused more problems for the MT than any other word in the past year.

My question simply is if such a word is not a problem in BattleChat for the MT, how is it an issue when it is a part of a username? What makes the use of it offensive in the latter case when it is not in the former?

It's half correct. It's becoming a bit repetitive but ok. I chose to not work with people who showed weak knees. You guys chose to not properly carry out the terms we agreed on. That's on MT and mostly you as head figure.

My question simply is if such a word is not a problem in BattleChat for the MT, how is it an issue when it is a part of a username? What makes the use of it offensive in the latter case when it is not in the former?

This is for you to figure out. I'm just reporting what I came across. It may have to do something with insulting an entire group too.

Yes, indeed. I am NOT interested in the discussion of whether such name should be allowed or not. As previously explained, I came across this name which I found to be distasteful and thus reported it.

If I have to explain things like this, on average, 3 times to you, I am going to stop such communication because I feel it wastes my time.

I feel completely indifferent to the outcome of the case. MT allows it? fine by me. Will be fun when names such as "idiotblacks" or "stupidjews" show up. Luckily, none of my concern. MT doesn't allow it? fine by me too. Perhaps the name GaryLIdiot may appear some time soon (not by me, but some may appreciate that name).

Honestly, I feel this is being made bigger than it really is.

Nortrom, "idiotblacks" and "stupidjews" are a whole lot more problematic that "RepublicanIdiots".   Those are commentaries on a race of people and as such are poor comparisons to the original complaint.  Republicans have taken far more offense as a group over the years than the mere word "Idiot".  I think they get worse daily from some outspoken Democrats.

My purpose in opening this thread was not to go back and forth with you bickering.  People will have the entirely wrong impression of things between us that this portrays.  So if you feel this conversation's a waste of  your time, then please just ignore it.   Don't say anything any more.  The gist of the thread is to throw out the question of whether "RepublicanIdiots" is offensive when calling someone an "idiot" in Battlechat is not. Anyone wanting to reply to that question would be welcome.

This issue was decided by the current MT as a renaming matter and so the person was renamed, making the discussion moot for now.
