The MT has officially recognized the proposed Article 1.72 concerning penalty stepping in MT decisions. The following language will be incorporated into the new GS&FR being updated. This provision ensures no player will find himself continually committing small infractions and avoiding a severe penalty. The MT will be forced to step up all new penalties against a player or forum member if current penalties exist. This, of course, excludes penalties that have expired due to the sunset clause at Article 1.12.

The proposed text for the new official article is the following:

1.7.2 Penalty Stepping: If there are any active penalties against a defendant (per the sunset clause at Article 1.11), any new penalty levied by the MT must step up at least one degree in severity according to the appropriate penalty schedule (see Articles 2.2, 3.2, 4.2, 5.2), though in abuse and forum violation cases they may step up even more degrees, as described in the "Jumping Penalties" at Articles 4.2 and 5.2.
