Tutorial 3: http://forum.strateg...ls/#entry458998

I found a webarchive backup of the Metaforge forum, with a table of content showing the Dividing the Board thread by Xerxes aka The Prof. Unfortunately, the thread itself has not been archived. :(

I hereby grant explicit permission to all my opponents to record and publish my games as they see fit.

Tutorial 4 is up: http://forum.strateg...ls/#entry459743

Due to a recent lack of spare time, I have been unable to write more tutorials in advance. I have quite a bit on at the moment and will be taking a break from posting more up until I catch back up, shouldn't be more than a month or two before the next though :).

LM,

Thanks so much for these tutorials! They are very well written, and cover the topic in a very understandable way. With this tutorial, and the many videos others have added over the last year and a half or so, new players can learn a lot quickly! Looking forward to seeing more in the near future.

Thanks Tilor, couldn't have done it without you ;)

@TemplateRex (and others),

I had a go at a sample game a while back and uploaded it to dropbox, let me know what you think.

PS: apologies in advance for the fan like noise, I don't know what it was as I had my laptop fan off, I think my mic might have a faulty cable that is causing the noise. Also had a bit of lag, hope its not too annoying to watch.

I wasn't aware you could have all the pieces show on Gravon like that, as in your example 3.

Yes it is quite a handy tool Gary, great for explaining situations.

it was a scenario set up by myself and fks, we could both see each others pieces, you cannot play a game and download showing both sides, as far as I am aware.

Hi guys,

sorry it's been a while, I am looking to finally get another tutorial or two written over the next few weeks. I am currently thinking of 4 topics to write on that I think alot of players in the mid ranks may struggle with. These tutorials will hopefully include a sample game or some recorded scenarios or both. Please let me know below which out of the following you would like to see next:

Attacking a shuffler

Organizing your base

Drawing info out of your opponent

Defending from lotto

As a player currently struggling to escape the lottoing silver players, defending from lotto seems quite interesting!

What do you mean with "organizing your base"? Is that a sub-topic of your setup guides?

The "drawing info" topic also seems very interesting, will you also discuss how to exploit info advantage?

Thanks for the reply TRex

organizing your base is referring to rearranging during game to best prepare for possible future situations, mostly applies to a setup that does not suit how your opponent is playing.

Drawing info is a massive part of stratego, and I would discuss some of the ways to best use the info you obtain of course, what good is the info if you can't do anything with it ;)

I hope that I will eventually cover all these subjects, but seeing what people want most :)

Hello Losermaker, I like your series a lot!

From the four options provided, I would be certainly interested in your take on the subject "Organizing your base". Especially because rearranging during a game comes with

- the risk of moving too many pieces

- raising suspicion while transporting important piece(s) from one side to another

This is interesting LM--"organizing ya base ". I myself got into it with a fellow forum member about this exact subject. My opponent was a head pieces but chose to retreat and "organize ya base". I felt it was most unbecoming as a player and saw it as shuffling around and drawing the match out. The forum member had their own thoughts on my tactics. I will take more time to review ya thoughts on this LM. Thank you for taking ya time and putting this info out there. As to my fellow Forum member ---I look forward to next match!   :)

Really sorry this has taken so long, I have been away for a few weeks and also have found it an extremely hard subject to put in words and examples... I hope I will have it out within another week.

Hi LM, If you get the time I would really be interested in on your outlook on trapping your opponents pieces.
I believe from our games and from games I have watched and heard you talk about your games previously you are one of the best in the world if not the best in this specific category of play.

I am looking forward to anything else you have to write!

Players who are looking to become better are getting a massive gift from you and should really capitalize on these tutorials.
