2018 World Team Tournament Announcement
we are pleased to announce the 2018 World Team Tournament. The tournament will begin on Monday, June 11. Registration will be open through June 8 at 23:59 GMT.
All teams must consist of four players and one alternate (optional).
Any player can express interest in playing, however, teams must be one of the following two types:
Type 1. Four players from the same country or federation
Type 2. Four players from three or four different countries (only one such team is allowed)
Every country or federation has the right to compete with only one team, except for the Netherlands and Greece, which are allowed to take part in the tournament with two teams each, due to the big number of players from these two countries.
Each team must select a team captain. The team captain for each team will be chosen by each team by consensus. If there is disagreement, the captain will be the player with the highest rating at the Kleier list.
Format and Matches:
The first stage of the tournament will include 2 Groups (A & B ). The two teams from each Group that gather the most points will qualify to the semi-finals, and the winners from each semi-final qualify to the final. The losers from each semi-final qualify to the 3rd-place deciders.
Matches will consist of 4 games between two teams. Prior to each match, each Team Captain will submit by PM to a neutral party a list of members with letter designations for each player (A, B, C, and D). In each match, player A from one team will compete against player A from the other, player B will play against player B, and so on. These lists will be made public after every team captain has submitted their list.
The winner of each game will receive one (2) point for their team.
The loser of each game, will receive zero (0) points for their team.
If a game ends in a tie, each player will receive one half (1) point for their team.
If after the group-stage matches teams are tied on points, then the tie is settled in favor of the team that scored more points in head-to-head competition against the team or teams with which it is tied. If teams are still tied, and settling the tie is necessary to determine which will advance to the semi-finals, then each of the tied teams will designate one player from their team to compete in an one-game playoff to break the tie.
If after the semi-finals, finals, or 3rd-place deciders teams are tied on points, then each of the tied teams will designate one player from their team to compete in an one-game playoff to break the tie. In case of an one-game playoff the team captain will designate the player from each player to compete in the playoff.
A separate thread will be created for questions.
