Hi Guldin,

You certainly have a creative idea here. I would say put on a poll in the North American forum and see if there are people who are willing to help. Cause its better to have some supporting people. If it becomes an success you can think about inviting foreigners and make an international Vegas tournament.

Molto Bene, Thats a nica Donut !

Guldin,

Hielco in previous posts stated he wouldn't play for $$. Perhaps he has changed his position, or once the fundementals are there, he may change his position ;).

For me it's not really a top priority, but would it one day get to it, I wouldn't object to it.

Thanks for sharing your story, was interesting to read :)

Guldin,

1st, Congratulations on having a happy family and best wishes to your wife.

2nd, Nothing is holding you back.  If you are there and have the connections, you could get it organized and promoted and let the community know and you'd likely get a few folks from this website that would attend.  I don't know that I agree Las Vegas is the #1 vacation spot but lots of folks enjoy spending time there.

Regards,

Scott

1st- unfortunately my wife has thrown me away like a piece of garbage and hated whenever i played stratego even though i pleaded with her about the importance of the game to me that i needed for the brain activity. she did not care and moved on so i cannot accept any sort of congratulations whatsoever. nor am i blaming stratego for the separation of my wife. i'm certain it was the menopause!

2nd- unless i was banking hielco, there would not be much incentive for me to organize a tournament. however, if the people who could really do this wanted me to get involved and do whatever i could do on my end ( as far as living here is concerned and knowing some people that are in casino marketing ), none of that would be a problem

3rd- whenever large groups of people all travel to las vegas to meet, there is always major discounts and reduced rates involved. the casinos make the gamble that enough people will lose money to make up for all of the discounts and then some and they are usually right! there is always going to be winners when there is a tournament. vegas expects those winners to lose all, some, or more of that money back on all of their many ways you can gamble your money away. so many people who have won huge amounts of money are broke now. that is why the casinos will sponsor these things and make the accommodations so cheap. it is up to each individual whether or not they make a vacation like this to actually be expensive! if the tourney is the only thing you gamble on you will overall win and have a great time!

@Guldin: what is your fascination with Hielco?

He is a very strong player in online games, but there are a few players a lot stronger on a real board.

Well , he is still #1 in rank (not for long, watch out for John)

I wonder why Pim doesn't also make a push

Like on the Stratego board, there is no free lunch: if you capture material, you lose information. Likewise, each rating point gained from your opponent, gives away information. Best saved for high stakes live tournaments :)

Of course, this holds most strongly for the strongest piece, lower ranked pieces can only gain ;)

Rankings don't mean much to me, some tournaments do have some value for me. The ranking / ladder thing on here is just a grind and playing enough games. When I had some displeasure with OL earlier this year, I considered making 6 new accounts and put them above him in the ranking to make a point, but its just a boring (to me) grind and decided it wasn't worth the effort. Of course the displeasure is taken care off too, so that's another reason ;)

Unlike some other displeasure that has been ongoing for quite a while here..

He is a very strong player in online games, but there are a few players a lot stronger on a real board.

first of all, out of any player that i played more than 20 times i would say that hielco and manning2cruz were the best 2 people i ever played other than perhaps (sohal) with hielco being the best, but i haven't played everybody. i would think that lightwing is probably the best player overall based on the facts, but i really don't know for sure. the key word you used was "few". therefore, if the publicity got out there, and a couple hundred people in vegas got in just for fun, i would have fun banking hielco and cashing... i understand what you are saying though. he has some way of making me forget his pieces. he must be good at the shell game as well :D

This is a good development for Stratego internationally! It gives hope to spread Stratego in various countries ;)
