every year they have multiple tournaments in las vegas. poker, bowling, pool, chess, and much more. why not a

stratego tournament? could there be a better place to have one? maybe we could build it into a convention and

help make the game more popular. i can assure you that when it comes to brain activity there is not a better game

in the world that i have found. it's got to be at least twice as potentate as chess. the beauty of the idea is stratego

would only be part of the vacation. there is so much to do in las vegas. february would be a good month to do it!

This is something I have in mind for a longer time now. It would be nice to make a research out of this hypothesis (which I share with you)! I think many brain regions are active when a good player is in a game!

This is a great idea.  I'd add that airfare is cheap to Vegas because they expect you to gamble the rest of it away.  It's also an easy drive to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.

lets all really think about this. a stratego convention with a tournament in las vegas every year. we can call it the world series of stratego. once the word gets spread around to the poker players we'd have ourselves just the bait we needed. these guys are gamblers. i have eye witnessed these fools flipping a coin for as much as 10k and they will bet on anything even if they knew nothing about it whatsoever. vegas vacations are cheaper than you think because it is all a numbers game to the casinos to get as many people here however they can. i can see how this could turn into something huge. they have a convention there for star trek. what normal person really gives a crap about that? go ahead and look into the vacation packages they have in las vegas, you will probably be amazed!

I was basically guaranteed that a hand full of dutch players would attend a tournamnet in Vegas. Kees de vas being one and Zoografos from Greece also said he would go to vegas. Any other Euro players willing to go if we got serious about this?

The buy-in for the tournament. $100 per player into the prize fund?

I have been twice i Las vegas for business. I can confirm this city 's atmosphere is all about enjoying playing games. For sure hotel rates are quite interesting because they expect you to lose more money in the slot machines but for sure it should be easy to find some sponsors there for financing a stratego NASF championship. Sure any European stratego player who would join there would enjoy it. The city is really nice and the surroundings may also be attractive. Not only games but also many entertainment activites possible.

Only negative point is that all these casinos are Trump owned and any $ you would lose there in a slot machine or on a poker table will end in Trump's pocket ...

Trump used to own some casinos in Atlantic City, not in Las Vegas (only one, maybe some other partial ownership)

Not sure as it is not yet organized but it would definitely be cheaper. The wc has a buy in of about 30 euros so that may be closer to the cost. Would that be more reasonable for you?

Guldin, are the tournaments you are referring to at the same time or different dates throughout the year?

Any buy-in below $100 would do it for me. Time off and away from family is bigger constraint. It is important to have a good prize fund to attract top players. Say there are 200 players, then you can go eg 5k-3k-2k-1K plus lower prizes that can cover accommodations for top10 and buy-in for top 25.

Online tournaments can't even get 80 people to join. The live wc which is very established has a hard time getting fifty registrants consistently, I don't think we would see 200 people anytime soon for this one.

no he doesn't! top 4 companies with the most casinos; mgm, boyd, stations, and harrahs. i doubt trump even owns 1% of the city!

all year long. at the end of the world series of poker would be a good time, but very hot.

that's why vegas would be a great spot. you have gamblers there that will bet on anything. idiots who haven't played since they were a kid would think they had just as good as a chance as anyone until hielco brought them back to reality, or maybe even a marsh charging lottoer could get lucky. it's vegas! a vegas tourney would simply be a lot more about fun and being on a real vacation. the stratego part would all be secondary. hell, some people will probably forget all about the tournament and end up as dead weight like any of these foolish gamblers that got in just for the rush.

The NASF will discuss if this could be an option.

that's probably because they realize they are throwing away money for very little fun. in a gambling town like vegas just spread the word and presto, all of the sudden there is pot odds for the average player to cash! you can count me in and i never even considered betting my money against hielco or lightwing. i'm around 3-30-1 lifetime against them so it just wouldn't seem like a smart bet to me. when you throw the buzz of vegas in there, that changes everything. since i live in vegas, i could post adds in all of the marijuana dispensaries when i'm picking up my prescriptions. between them, the drunks, and degenerate gamblers (especially the poker players) there could be pot odds for anyone beyond a noob. also, if this turns probable, i have some connections in town that would probably be able to make us a sweet deal.

"Hey honey I'm going to go to Las Vegas for 4 days to play stratego."

No matter how cheap the hotel is, I'm guessing that would cost me dearly.  :)
