I haven't watched game yet. The odd blowing noise is most likely your computers fan. Maybe you aren't wearing headphones and if not you should!

I'm definitely a novice at this youtube recording thing, but what difference would headphones make? My audio will still pick up computer fan blowing..

I meant head phones with a mic. Even just those apple ear plugs should be fine. Mic will take out most surrounding noise hopefully and make you a lot more clear. Very big difference.

Lively games,lol

You lose your cool when opp shows his marshal early!

In the first game he hasn't even taken anything and plays cautiously, so I would just have stood very still with all my pieces on the right. You have some fantastic defensive values there vs a blitzer. Just attack with small pieces through the center and try and locate his general and bombs before you start lotto-ing.

In the second game it was indeed very annoying and nasty that he took your colonel, but colonel vs marshal info is not game losing. Also he stopped lottoing and he has started on the wrong side of the board, so you have oodles of time again to attack through the center, again looking for bombs and his general.

Any time when you play vs a silver player as a gold player, use a setup with decent defenses vs early marshals. Flag in one of the 4 center spots, spy behind the lake (1st/2nd row) on the side of the flag and 1-2 early bombs on the other side.

Fks knows how to play a friendly game - napoleon should view that game. Open warfare rather than trench wars. Fun game.

Here is ranked game #21

SPOLIER:

I few mistakes I noticed, of course getting my leuit trapped which almost cost me the game, and not exploiting the fact that I had his spy very well. I was afraid he might lotto because he was down, so I exchanged cols and marshals.

I agree. I should have played more patient instead of lottoing. I got ticked when he lottoed into my col, and I just figured I had lost anyway, because he would eventually find my marshal. I was surprised that he scout and checked pretty much every piece up to the marshal on that side, lol. Not sure why he never checked it.

It is very interesting to note that Fairway is very glad to post videos of his matches whether he wins or loses–this is such an honest approach to things and we may learn from both scenarios.

It is so easy to sit back and to criticize someone's game-play on a video, but we all know that when we are in the midst of a match, it is a much different and a far more challenging event than merely sitting back in your chair at home making all sorts of observations without a buffer running out, or an opponent to deal with.

You've done a terrific job, Fairway!  :)  Please share more of your matches and with your commentary–it is very rewarding for all of us...at least most of us!  :D

Hi Robert,

I just noticed this comment

Thank you for the compliments, although I would like to say I think OuweSok is being helpful :) as I encourage criticism/ critiques of my gameplay so that I can improve. As my signature states, I have to learn from my mistakes! :)

Don't give away the endings of your games.  It makes watching them more interesting if we don't know how it turns out.

Hey, Fairway! Thank you for the videos. Your 'friendly' is particularly instructive because it demonstrates the advantage of playing a particular opponent multiple times. So often, one may come up against a well seasoned player and lose, and then the idea may take root that there is no chance to beat such a player because they are better than you. Of course, you do have the advantage over your friend of having been consistent in your practicing of Stratego, but your victory was based primarily upon your strategy–that, in turn, was based upon your experience playing matches against your friend (by the way...please tell him he is totally cool...I love his comment about the big stage and being slaughtered).

Your ranked match was also fun to watch and you were clearly building upon the mistakes your opponent had made in order to determine your next course of action.

Really fun stuff, Fairway! Thanks again.

At 14:38 you allowed him a possible path to your flag in case his pieces on the F-file were a miner and a scout (if he had a miner on F3 he could take out the bomb on F1 and force you to trade with your G1 miner, opening a path for an F-file scout). They weren't, but with so much material ahead you should have scouted the piece on F3.
