I would like to report JOSE333 for abusive comments. He spent 30 minutes shuffling and talking trash. I eventually accepted a draw, just to get rid of him.

He made numerous comments about 9/11 being a holiday and other "I hate the USA" rants. Didn't save those gems, but I did save these gay and racist comments. Please do something about this guy. Thank you.

A case has been opened.  This fellow hit the trifecta in his first line.

Can someone translate the following chat exchange(Greek, I think?)? I have a strong feeling that it was abusive chat. This impatient and rude player is called potredas

Pending admin action, the account of player potredas will be permanently banned for abusive language.

Is this straight to a PB? If so, what are the criteria for going straight to a PB?

There is bit of subjectivity involved in most cases, of course, but the offensive level and quantity of abusive chat dovetailing in a single complaint got the PB done this time. We do require four moderator votes to PB someone so this never goes easily.

I cannot help but notice a number of similarities between potredas' language and Unladen Swallow's in his match with PANNTHEON, as both rudely brought up sodomy. I hate to continually beat a dead horse, but why was potredas' offense judged more harshly? I personally have no problem with the ban, I am just concerned with equivalance.

Opinions do differ. That's why we always have a team approach and minimum of three mods for a normal conviction. With your point, though, there was no mention of sodomy in the Unladen Swallow language. So that's a big difference.

Might want to double check US' message. If PANTHEON were to take his suggestion, he wouldn't be sticking it in his own nose...

There is no such player on the leaderboards named PANTHEON–bronze, silver, gold, or platinum.

GaryLShelton is correct. The verb, to sodomize, clearly involves two people, not one. I have read the arguments that one can do this to oneself, but it is an invalid argument. The root of the word and its primary definition may be illustrated best by reading Genesis 19:1 (specifically 19:5). There is a world of difference between threatening someone with sexual abuse, and telling someone to "buzz" off.

Well, I'm not decreeing anything normal here :) but 'sodomy', per se, involves two people.

Unless we are reckoning his opponent's me, myself, and I as three people... :)

I see didn't see KMC had commented on the two people thing.

I guess my definition of sodomy was wrong. I have been watching too much SVU and the definition is different in certain contexts. Technically, potredas said he uses a carrot, so that is not sodomy either. In any case, this is getting away from the point I wanted to make, which is that no one in power on this site is willing to make unpopular or difficult decisions.

Both US and potredas made lewd comments about anal masturbation with phallic objects, agreeable definition?, but only one got permanently banned. It is also telling that the MT cited US' tournament performance as a reason for a lesser ban. The TC is also guilty of this, when Overlord lied on the alias register, a much lesser offense, they did not remove him because it would have affected the tournament. They ignored that he gained an advantage by flagrantly violating the rules.

It easy to ban someone like potredas because no one will object. It is tough to ban someone like Josh because he is popular. However, if you do not have the stomach to enforce the rules despite disdain from the player base then you should not be a moderator or a tournament organizer.

Also consider that if US is brazen enough to say that in a TC, think of how often he shows poor self control and insults other players in cases that are not reported.

We can't do anything about things that are not reported.

Potredas said an awful lot more than what you quoted from what I recall.

potredas had more vile comments, malcom.jansen. It's all subjective and maybe a case here and there falls on the line with a moderator or two, but we usually end up with a good solid consensus. I don't think any of us feels he is letting Unladen Swallow off the hook too easy. We are all particularly aware of his history and he will have to be more careful in the coming year. These penalties don't go away for 12 months.
