You have to play at least 3 games in 2 months to maintain yourself in the ranking or 25 games to remain inthe challenge ranking. If you don't play these you disappear from ranking but as soon as you reach again such minimum you appear again.

Does it keep you in your same place and rank/rating that you had when you disappeared?  Or do you start over from the rating you currently have when you again qualify for the ranking?

you always keep your ranking. Only in annual challenge ranking it will be reset at the beginning of each year (new year ranking).

Hey, do you guys know the answer to this question? When I'm playing on Probe and want to replay a game, I can watch the game with both sides completely visible to me. It's very neat to see the totality of information and see where my assumptions were right or wrong.

Can this be done at Gravon?

With the excellent level of play at Gravon this would be incredible, but then I guess it wouldn't be very likely even if possible.

That's really too bad. There's nothing more educational than to watch all the pieces play with complete information. If we could see how elite players play in this way, as Probe allows, it would be fantastic. :)

You can watch the old gravon games offline with their game viewer that shows the pieces from both sides.  It's very helpful. Unfortunately, the players are anonymous. I posted all the games played by the player with the best game setup winning percentage.  https://stratego-tip...atego-game.html

I've been watching those games.  The player is very good.  He uses the colonel, spy, marshal trap to protect his flag. He likes to use a major to get information and is very fast at counterattacking with the general when a marshal is revealed.  At the end of his games, he's usually up captains and lieutenants, but down a major.

Watching top Stratego players play will certainly help most players get better.  They'll learn how to attack and defend better, how to play from behind, how to counterattack, when to be patient and how to finish off games.    I'll be posting other games from the top winning game setups soon.  I probably should also highlight the games they lost, because they probably played against another very good player.

I don't know the answer to your question, KMC, sorry. And I would like to add mine to the list also. If anyone knows how to play at Gravon on an Android phone (Samsung S7), I'd like to know that as well.

Since a lot of new accounts have been made recently and gravon is not the easiest to get into, nor the interface the easiest to use, I decided to make a list of things to help out people making accounts.

Getting Started

First off go to gravon.de (gravon.net for English version) and register an account (top right-hand corner)

One of the first problems most people have is with receiving their temporary password from gravon that allows them to log in initially. If you have not received your password make sure to look in your junk mail folder and if you still can’t find it look up Gravon in all your folders and see what comes up. If you still can’t find your password contact Thorsten (spion) at spion@gravon.de and discuss your problem.

Once you have your password you are ready to launch gravon. Initially you can try to launch it and see what happens.

If it will not launch it is probably due to java security. To fix this you will either have to allow www.gravon.de/ as a site exception in java security settings or download an older version of java that has less strict settings. If neither of these options help I cannot give any further advice, I hope other players may have more on how to fix this.

If it does launch fine then the new gravon window will pop up after java has run and you can enter your nick and password which you received in your email.

Congrats you should now be logged in to Gravon!

Hints

Before you start playing there are a few things that are good to do before starting.

One is to go to the top of the game bar and select ‘options’ then enable ‘auto query’. Enabling this allows you to receive private messages in a separate chat box from the game window, which makes it a lot easier for others to contact you.

Contact an admin if they are online and ask to have your stratego ranking enabled. The enabling process may take up to 2 weeks whilst they make sure you are not an alias etc.

Read through the list of commands; the ‘.W(username)’ one is particularly useful if someone has been away from PC and you want to send them a wakeup with sound. For a full list of commands go to http://www.gravon.de...von/befehle.jsp

The best time to play from personal experience is around 20:00-22:00GMT.

Navigating Gravon

Personally, I find that once you sign in the best thing to select is either the game you are wanting to play, or ‘User List’. If you click on the stratego game, it will show a list of rooms with current games you can go to these rooms by clicking anywhere near the game room with the players’ names.

If you are in the ‘Userlist’ you can click on any registered players name to see their stats and rank etc as well as what game(s) they play. If they are in another room you can press ‘go’ which takes you to the same room as them. The other little chat icon is for private chat, and works best if both players have ‘auto query’ enabled.

Once you are in a room and want to join and play games use this as a guideline:

http://www.gravon.de...atego/howto.jsp

Hope this helps some of you out, cu over there  B)

Losermaker

Are you sure you didn't miss out the bit where you have to stand on the steps of the museum and wait for the man wearing the red carnation to open his umbrella ?  :D

Seriously , while this post is no doubt invaluable for anyone who wants to go and play at Gravon , it also explains why it must be a ghost ship over there , only kept alive at all because some of its members come on here to recruit.

How to play a ranked game on stratego.com :

Enter stratego in google and the site comes up at the top of page 1 of the search results ( not someway down page 355 )

Choose name and password . Request to play and you are playing a minute later.

I doubt gravon brings many players to online stratego.

Well, you can use a remote desktop app, but then you are technically playing on the remote computer, not the phone

What brag? That I own a cell phone? If that's a brag there's a gazillion others who could make bigger brag with bigger and better equipment than I have.

Where can I find those XML's?

The viewer and game files can be found at the 2 links below.

http://www.gravon.de...go/strados2.jsp

http://www.gravon.de/strados2/files/

Here's a listing of all the gameboard setups and their won/loss/tie record with at least 10 games played:

https://www.dropbox....ravon1.txt?dl=0

If you put all the game files in 1 directory and sort by size, the files that are the largest have the most moves.  Those games might be interesting to watch.
