I was quite exhausted after it. And fistpumping.

Reviewing the game I made several rookie mistakes. Moving miner and captain at the face of his general was bad. Nothing had moved.

Also redirecting my attention to his left field was bad. All his big pieces were in the center and the right. Surely I must clear the right up and find his flag. That idea occurred to me just in time

Also I need to further optimize and learn to play this setup. I didnt like the left colonel being open to scouts for so long and I need to place something else behind that captain on the right that can deal with miners so I can remain still with my captain when something moves adjacent

After a good meal and some nice wine I felt quite confident playing a game of Stratego. You don't need to stinkin general to win games!

And now some platinum content: a game between Hielco and Overlord, played at Gravon, with some comments from yours truly that should allow you to follow the game fairly well.

Enjoy!

A weird game. I had a fake scout at 0:12, but I reacted well to that with a good guess. That scout and the exchanged majors (2:37) do not show up in the graveyard. Also a very surprising ending which makes me believe this player was better than Silver General.

Surrendering when you've won is a new tactic.

I've played him twice and his rating was 700 and 639.

I would like to play you at some point. Are you in an American or European time zone?

That is an eye opener. So he was a disguised high gold/low platinum player. I was pretty sure that he was better than silver general. An unsupported colonel in first row, completely separated from the marshal, the accurate lotto with his major (if he hits the bomb, I swear I will beat him), his calculated aggressiveness, the unmasking of my bluff with his lieutenant and general unwillingness of donating pieces. Nothing I've ever seen from a silver player.

Funny that I dusted off my anti blitz/lotto-er setup to play the highest player I have faced upto now and come close to beating him. I made plenty of mistakes I'm sure, but if I had guessed a bit better where his last miner was I would have won.

I am in CET. It is not easy for me to dedicate time, I usually play on ad-hoc basis when I know I have at least 1h free of family and work, but we can try :) Wanna beat up an old sock?

As my rating improves - so do my opponents. The client reacted horribly slow, this video is at 250%, but I could have easily put it at more speed.

You played well, OuweSok! Your opponent, on the other hand, played a very poor match...this does not mean you did not have a challenge, as you did. Your opponent was reckless, basically thoughtless, and arrogant. You had some excellent bluffs going for you, but because he was essentially with limited ability, he made some (forgive me for being blunt) rather stupid moves, and his foolishness cost him this match. You deserved to win and you did. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for immortalizing how awful it is to play a match on this site when it is deficient in providing proper support for its members and players.

Today I played five games, I think that is my record. Well, it were only four games, since one opponent left before the first move. One silver player lotto-ed his marshal into my anti-blitz setup and that was it. The other two I lost, one because my general/major attack ran into colonel and marshal defense :( and one through a misclick when I was two majors up :/

So I was kind of upset with myself when I found a gold major cross my path.

Excellent play . Nice when that Spy play comes off.

Attacking with General at the start is risky though , hard to come back against anyone if you lose it without at least getting a Colonel first.

Setup: first row general

If you are flowing my Stratego channel, and I think you should if your ambition is to become a gold player, then you will have noticed that I'm sporting a first row General in my latest games.

In this video I will be making some comments on this setup. I hope you find it instructive!

Excellent!

Thanks Scott. You are a silver sergeant? Have you tried my anti blitz and lotto setup yet? It ought to work quite well for you, because you are right into the territory.

Today I ordered the Mage Knight board game. If it is as good as I hear it is, there might be a steep decline in my Stratego activities coming soon :/
