Two big relegation battles were fought in the past couple of days.

DR_ELL_SuPREME managed to defeat Luckypapa to condemn the Dutchman to relegation from Cleopatra, whilst gpet0's victory over KARAISKAKIS consigned his countryman to the drop from Apex.

The final game of the competition - Enigma v gpet0 - is set for tomorrow evening after which the Final Tables will be published.

The Printing Presses at the Pharoah are up and running again as we look forward to the Pyramid League 2018. Rumours abound that the ink used to print the Pharoah contains Cleopatra's saliva, though this has yet to be authenticated. Others say it is made from the sweat of a hundred spies.

With one place remaining in Apex, Great Manos has a chance to take a spot as he battles playa1 in the Champions League semi-final this weekend.

Should Great Manos find only Great disappointment, then the Apex play-off will be contested by texaspete09 and gkaros, after mrbrainiac was unable to accept his position this year.

Gkaros currently has a full inbox, so TC are eager for him to contact them.

If you are thinking of travelling to the Pyramid this year, make sure to register and join the 35 warriors who have signed up so far.

http://forum.strateg...e-2#entry455939

We can also exclusively reveal that the Pyramid Lottery will be returning to offer players the chance to win £100 of cash money.

Pyramid Preview

Spotlight on....

Khufu

Khufu was an ancient Egyptian monarch who ruled during the Fourth Dynasty (26th century BC) and is generally accepted as having commissioned the Great Pyramid of Giza.

This year's 12 members of Khufu have just as good a chance as going down in history.

This year's crop of Apex hopefuls are made up of only 3 nations. 3 from the US (Wogomite, Fks, constrictor), 1 from Lithuania (LAZZLO) and the remaining 8 from the Stratego stronghold of Greece (macedoniagr, cflag, Major Nelson, IOLAUS1926, Geo_Tsarpista, Great Manos, hellinon and gmits)

Only 5 of these players took part in Core last year, so it is a new experience for the majority.

Local bookmakers have installed Major Nelson as the favourite for the Khufu Title. In fact, he is the players choice as 14/19 Pyramid Lottery punters selected him as their winner. It is easy to see why as Major Nelson has rapidly risen through the ranks in recent times

There are others who will mount a challenge. constrictor is the second favourite - gathering 3 votes in the Pyramid Lottery and who also boasts an account ranked far higher than any other participant in the division not far off 1200 ELO.

Two other players also gained one vote as winners in the Pyramid Lottery. Fks - who has also improved at an impressive pace in the past 6 months, and Kentinator - who isn't even playing. The somewhat unorthodox mind games have begun courtesy of Wogomite - who can also do some damage in the division - a player who finished in the Top 15 of the World Cup last year in his first competitive live tournament.

Khufu welcomes the long awaited return of ex-TC member cflag - An extremely nice guy and one not to be underestimated on the battlefield.

Another player who has seemed to slip through the side door unnoticed is Great Manos. This account actually tops the list for most ELO points gained between Feb 2017 and May 2018, and recent tournament finishes have reciprocated this improvement.

macedoniagr, a product of the SERRES Team, is another player who has kept a low profile and quietly come up with some great results in recent times. IOLAUS1926 and Geo_Tsarpista - their club teammates, have also shown the potential to cause Khufu players some serious issues

In LAZZLO and gmits we have two players who survived Core unscathed last year and will be hoping to apply that experience. It is after all, a marathon not a sprint, and players who take the later games as seriously as the openers tend to prosper.

hellinon has not been long on the online tournament scene, but has already had impressive performances - including victory over Major Nelson in the Winter Tournament.

Khufu is set to be a tightly contested affair.

People's Choice (Winner): Major Nelson

People's Choice (Challenger): constrictor

Players Choice (Runner-Up):  Fks
Dark Horse: Great Manos
Player to watch: cflag
Wildcard: macedoniagr

Underrated: Wogomite

Pyramid Preview

Spotlight on....

Apex

OVERLORD returns to tournament action to attempt to retain the Pyramid Title following his victory in the inaugural championship last year. According to the players of the lottery, OVERLORD is favourite for the title - with 10 of 19 selecting him as their Apex winner.

The rest of the selections indicate that Apex is set to be a three horse race. Hielco was selected as winner only 4 times - which given his history of tournament victories is perhaps a little surprising - followed by playa1 with 3 selections. I wonder whether the OVERLORD backers would have changed their mind with the benefit of hindsight - after Hielco defeated OVERLORD to take an early advantage in the division.

One thing is for sure - it is going to be close at the top. With a division of 13 players it is likely that the champion may have to win 11 games to claim the title.

The so-called big 3 (with Nortrom sitting out this year), attracted 35 of the 37 votes between them in the Lottery. There were also winning votes (one apiece) for Enigma (playing in his customary annual tournament) and Unladen Swallow (who ran away with Alexandria last year) to take the crown. And if you're wondering how there are 37 votes when it should be an even number - the Pharoah has been informed by lottery statisticians that 'self-votes' were excluded in those numbers.

We're only in the second year of the Pyramid - so I'm not sure whether this next stat is unusual - but 8 of the 13 players in Apex are playing there for the first time. (Aside from the big 3, Enigma and Grizzlybear played and retained their places last year).

The Greek contingent joining OVERLORD is Nikos1972, roeczak and Henry domerkant. Netherlands, not to be outdone, also has 4 representatives - with hello124 and Moghedien joining Hielco and playa1. The third most represented country is USA, where texaspete09 (runner up of Cleopatra last year) joins Enigma.

With one compatriot apiece, Switzerland (Napoleon1er), UK (Unladen Swallow) and Germany (Grizzlybear) are all represented, making Apex the most multinational division this year.

With only the top 7 guaranteed to avoid relegation, this division is set to be tight. Players challenging for 4th could find themselves battling for relegation in the blink of an eye or the loss of a sargeant.

People's Choice (Winner): OVERLORD
People's Choice (Challenger): Hielco
Players Choice (3rd Horse): playa1
Dark Horse: Enigma
Long shot: Unladen Swallow
Wildcard: Henry domerkant

Pyramid Preview

Spotlight on...

Nefertiti

Nefertiti was an Egyptian Queen who , together with her husband Akhenaten , ruled Egypt in the 14th Century BC, at arguably the wealthiest period of Ancient Egyptian history.

The respective Core Division is filled-up with participants hoping to win a spot in next year's Apex. This is The Pyramid's most multinational Division, with 8 nations being represented. (so the report in the post above is wrong...  :P
 )

Young Dutch talent (and fellow TC member) Master Mind was the one picked by the people as the favorite, with 12 selecting him as their projected winner.

However, it will definitely not be easy for him as many respectable players are to be crossing their swords with him. Josephwhite currently leads with 3/3, followed by leppie who has 2 wins. Many matches between the top guns are yet to be played, as this division is the one that is the furthest from being completed.

A special mention is to go to Fairway, the recent winner of the A.S.S., for playing 8 of his 11 games in the first five weeks. However, if this was a strategy, it didn't go too well; he managed only one win against the Serres Team's rising star GrShark, who started with two losses but still can turn it around.

How tightly contested this division will be is easily seen by the runner-up votes in the lottery, with eight different participants getting votes, a Pyramid record. The person that ended up getting the most of those is TheOptician , who will be representing the UK this weekend at his second World Championship.

The Americans Steelers and Astros are also feautring in the choices, as is the Berliner panther65,winner of Base last year, who will also be attending the WC in the weekend. Fighter68 is the second German in the lineup .

Thessaloniki's DR_ELL_SuPREME does not play tournaments often, but is a good player nonetheless. 14th place in the WCO 2017 certifies this.

France's best player, after Sohal left, is the rising star Loco Luc - he has yet to play a game, but he has showed that he can definitely compete with this game's greats . Will he be on contention for Apex as the fights continue? We'll see.

There will be many great battles in this Division, so watch out!

People's Choice (Winner): Master Mind
People's Choice (Runner-up): TheOptician
Dark Horse : Astros
Player to watch : josephwhite
Long shot : leppie
Wildcard : Loco Luc

The Pyramid is finally drawing to a close - with 3 and a half weeks remaining of the competition.

Apex might appear to be a two horse race. Hielco can guarantee the title with 4 points from his last 3 games (vs playa1, Enigma and texaspete09).

Should he only manage three points, then OVERLORD has the opportunity to take the title should he beat Enigma.

Theoretically, hello124, Enigma and playa1 all still have a chance to top the table should they win their remaining games. That would get them to 16 points, so would require a falter at the final hurdle from both Hielco and OVERLORD.

Only the top 7 have a guaranteed retained place in Apex, so no-one is down at this stage and everyone has something to play for.

In Core (Khufu) it is tight at the top. Both Wogomite and cflag can guarantee the title should they win their last two games (they play against each other in the final week).

If this doesn't happen, Major Nelson could grab top spot with 3 wins from his last 3.

Great Manos still has a chance, though results elsewhere would have to go his way.

Only one has a guaranteed place in the Pyramid elite next year.

In this incredibly tight division, 8 players have between 5 and 8 points - all of which face the drop. 2 of them won't survive.

In Core (Nefertiti), both josephwhite and panther65 have the title in their own hands - with each other still to play.

astros is close behind, and TheOptician a little further - both can also take the title should the top two lose ground.

Master Mind, leppie and Loco Luc remain in the running, though this would require a few horses to stutter at the last couple of fences.

Two of the remaining players will go down - both Fairway and GrShark could reach 6 points if they win their remaining games, so this makes the guaranteed safety line 7 points - a feat already achieved by half the players, but not yet fighter68, Loco Luc and steelers.

The Base of the Pyramid has been plagued (in both divisions) by withdrawals. Only 7 remain in Sneferu, whilst Hatshepsut fares even worse with 5 warriors standing. That makes 11 players gone from the Base of the Pyramid, a statistic that has caused TC to schedule an unprecedented crisis talks in Cairo next month.

- Sniper - already has the Hatshepsut title wrapped up - and a place in Core guaranteed. Though withd WinterTourn and Champions League
still to come he could still go one better. Somali pirate has second place secured.

In Sneferu, things are still open. slowmutant8 will take top spot with a win over pasxalistz (they play in an hour and a half).

Should he fail then the door is opened for both pasxalistz and Jesus_saves.

josephwhite was celebrating today after victory over panther65 ensured he wins promotion to Apex. The South African has been in fine form recently, and managed to prevail in an hour and a half marathon to take the Nefertiti title in a make or break game.

playa1 kept his slim Apex title chances alive last night with a victory over Hielco.

Hielco still has the title in his own hands - he can guarantee victory with two wins against Enigma and texaspete09.

With only 17 games left in the Pyramid League, a lot of Pyramid tourists are awaiting the final results. Here are the two most important questions right now.

Who will be the Champion of Apex?
This is a question only to be answered in a week, as there are still some canditates left. Hielco has to win his last 2 games to guarantee the top spot. However, if he does not get 4/4, OVERLORD will claim it if he wins his game versus American top player Enigma. That exact same player is also still able to get ahead of OVERLORD and Hielco, by beating them both, as well as beating hello124.

Who will be the Champion of Khufu?
At the moment, Major Nelson is on top with 14 points. If he wins his last game against hellinon, only cflag will be able to surpass him if he wins his 2 remaining games with Wogomite and Great Manos. If Greek star Nelson doesn't win his last game, Wogomite claims the top seat if he defeats cflag.

Good luck to the remaining players in the competition!
