You certainly can! :)

I have seen a glimpse of Henry's lottoing when he grabbed two pieces with his colonel in the second game.

In the third game I thought you were going to lose

I thought he was going to lose the 3rd game too.  You gotta love his passion when his opponent hits a bomb to decide the game.

Great game , Major. See , there are other ways to exploit your unparalleled luck besides lottoing.

Jokes aside , here are aome observations about our game.

When you say "big mistake" what do you mean exactly ? The only way to avoid getting 2 squared by my marsh would have been to grab the lieut that was attacking your colonel, were you intending that?

At 27:30 I think I should have moved my Marshal down which would eventually trap your Major so that was a big mistake by me.

Could you give me some advice on scouting? It is funny to see that in this game ypu scout:

A lieutenant and a sergeant with scouts
A major with the spy (!!)
A miner with the sergeant (of course) while i scout

Two miners with two scouts
A sergeant with a miner
And a captain with a lieut
Always finding the next higher ranked piece.

It seems to me that this huge difference was what decided the game.

When you tried to trap my colonel with the unknown lieutenant and the unknown marshal I guessed correctly that the marshal was the second piece coming. However, guessing the marshal correctly wasn't enough, I also had to make sure my colonel would not get trapped by your marshal with the 2-square rule, as it was very unlikely I would have my marshal there. At the moment I didn't think about that and so you captured my colonel.
I try to scout pieces that I don't think are likely to be bombs. The lieutenant I scouted and then captured with my colonel was at a spot where very few players would put a bomb. The major was at a spot were players with bombed flag would most of the times put the front bomb of their flag; however, I expected you not to have your flag there exactly because it's the most common spot and we've played numerous matches together (I expected you would put your flag at a more unlikely position to trick me during the endgame). But even if you had a bomb there, then I would probably know your flag's position which would be useful info.
After failing to detect your flag at this side of the board, the only spot left for bombed flag was left corner. So my hitting the piece next to the last row bomb of the supposedly closed flag with the sergeant was sensible scouting.

roeczak you have improved to a solid platinum player and are able to remember pieces that moved and are known, able to play several sound strategies and shift gears, able to decently reconstruct the opponents setup. But if you play a platinum marshal, you will need more or most of the time, they will have more favorable exchanges than you and most of the time end up with better/more pieces, without you knowing what went wrong or how you could have played or guessed better.

I'm sure you will have beaten MN various time, but to improve your statistics vs him, you will have to even better remember your opponent's setup, even better guess the ranges of the unknown pieces and at the same time make your setup harder to read.

Look at his setup. The two bombs at g2, g3 are potentially seriously hindering his own logistics. On the left side he has access to three captains and no majors, because two majors are in the center. The bombs that are not protecting his flag are on the side where the marshal is. His flag is not in the same side as his marshal. That is a very hard to read setup.

When you play a gold player, yes, play a sound setup, have a mix of pieces you can play with in every lane as they will punish you less for playing sound setups. Vs a platinum player you will need to be a bit less sound/predictable. You need to guess better and make him misguess more and try to improve you chances of being on the better end of each exchange.

Also, because roeczak talks all the time about how lucky I am, I admit that at some cases I've been lucky but the fact that I am lately playing ranked matches regularly and managing to sustain a rating around 980 while you struggle to reach 800 again is not just because I'm luckier. In many cases you think I am just lucky while there really is logic behind my choices.

Indeed, this set up was quite unpredictable in many perspectives. Even the fact that I had both the Marshal and the General at the front row was not expected as with roeczak I put them at the second row most of the times. After many games experimenting with my flag's position I tried putting it at the side of my general and not my marshal for a change and it paid off.
I believe that the key to being successful at stratego is to be unpredictable. The best way to achieve this is by constantly trying new formations and gamestyles. There are matches at which I put both the Marshal and the General at the front row (the general even exposed sometimes, not behind a lake), but I've also played games with both the Marshal and the General at the 3rd fow. I've also tried playing with the Marshal/General at the second row but not behind a lake. As for the flag, I've even tried putting it at B1 (or I1). Especially against opponents that I play very often I constantly try new things to surprise them. And I have to admit that many of my wins against roeczak have come only because I know the basic logic behind his set ups. If he tried different things after each game then our games would be more even. As Losermaker has said, many players find a set up/gamestyle that suits them quite well and stick to it. If you truly want to become a top player as I hope to, one day, I believe your set ups/ style have to evolve all the time.

Great videos! Thanks for posting. I love how you are not afraid to raise the stakes in your games vs Hielco (around 26:00) and gpet0 (around 22:30). Really exciting to see all your high pieces "in their face". Especially the game against gpet0: very nice to block his general on your left, pin his colonel on your right and rampage with your colonel in the center. If the marsh takes in the center, you always have a colonel with your general.
