I feel like if you could crop off those adds on your screen it would make the images less distorted.

However, great games, and great job!

This is pretty good, but you still have to mentally rotate the board of the 2nd player. And rotating the video image is also not great because then the images are upside down. Although the new pieces (as opposed to the classic pieces) are quite recognizable by color when upside down.

I would love to have a full replay option here.

Thanks for the comments (also in the other thread) I will try to solve as many problems as possible in the next one.

What do you mean by full replay option?

With full replay I mean the level of detail and perspectives from e.g. the Gravon viewer. There are 4 perspectives / information levels that you can view a Stratego game. 1 & 2 = perspectives from player A and player B: this is what the split screen video shows. Then there also the fully public and fully private views. Fully public is what you see if you watch on Gravon, and fully private is what you get if you download an anonymous Gravon game.

In an ideal world, this site would save your own games in a text file and allow you to view it offline using an app.

For those that like to watch vids, this should be a good start. There's always room for improvement, but let's instead be happy with what has been achieved with this trial (and maybe error :)).

Of course I'm happy with this new split-screen innovation! But let me quote George Bernard Shaw:

“The reasonable man adapts himself to the world: the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man.”

In an ideal world, this site would save your own games in a text file and allow you to view it offline using an app.

3 years ago I wrote an application to do just that on Stratego.com. Using a sniffer component, a LUA filter component to decode SFS IO traffic (they use crappy tech here and an even more creepy protocol; and that's why I also rejected their partial job offer), an internal application pipe and an application I was able to record my games move by move. Using another developed web application, the games were replayable step by step at your own pace, from any perspective or fully visible. I preferred this over videos in which not everything was visible.

Let me check if I can still find the sources for sharing. Don't get your hopes up too soon, as I also lost the sources to the alias detection and management tool once developed for the MT (a small part of it was public as clean ranking). Please note in advance that I will not be documenting or maintaining them due to an extreme lack of time and interest (don't even have time to play the game myself..), so I will not rebuild them any time soon.

Are you willing to elaborate on how the alias detection tool worked? The existence of such a tool would obviously be useful to TC though I am assuming it is no longer possible.

Not in public, due to user privacy and legal concerns. It's also something that was once stated to remain within MT, to not affect its effectiveness, as you can understand. The old MT was aware of its proven and very reliable potential, but only one of them (Gary) is still there, for now. However, back then he was not the most digi-accustomed one, so I do not know if he is able to relay it; yet I prefer to delegate the matter of exposing internals to the current MT.

Understood.

It certainly would make for a good article in the Bomb. Looking forward to MT comment on the matter :-)

The benefit that was obtained for the Clean Ranking, a very useful and entertaining service while it worked I felt, was the limit of my experience with Nick de Jong's information. Although it was, and still is, a true statement to say I am technologically-challenged, I am unaware of a single case where anyone was convicted by the MT because of any specialized "alias detection" features from Nick at that time, or later.

That we still have alias isues on the site proves pretty well the MT never acted upon any "secret" information to conquer them, I think.

In that case you do not mind sharing one of the details, do you?
For one, I (and so MT) had access to each accounts registered email address; and as many multiple account users very much used patterns in them (some very sloppy) ; a heuristic algorithm was developed to identify probable matches. Some even certain.

This was just one of the aspects; and I'm sure you can understand this information combined identified lots of aliases. Information on cases was being relayed by two/three of your former MT colleagues.

Lol, this made me think of my aliases which had simply the numbers 1 2 3 4 added to my real email before they were deleted :)

Hi,

nice topic.

New players start at 600 Kleier points

juniors start at 300 Kleier points.

After that their points go up or down depending on their results.

Take for exemple John Vandoros

We can discuss if he is the best player in the world, but since his opponents 'in general' in Greece have lower Kleier points

than in Holland, he's gaining more slowly on the list if he beats all Greek players at a Greek tournament.

If Pim Niemeijer beats all dutch players in an tournament, he will 'normally' win more points than John, since the opponents of Pim are rated stronger.

I said 'normally' cause there are als 2 other parameters to consider for winning or losing Kleier points

1) when you play many tournaments, at a certain point, you won't gain many points (even with a big victory defeating top players), because you're other (previous) tournaments before were taken into account.

That said, that means that a new live player who plays immediately 1 good tournament will have instantly a good Kleier rating

2) Kleier calculates also this way: the latest tournament from a player counts for 100%, the previous tournament for 95%, the other one before for 90% and so on (I just gave fake %, but you understand my point).

I think more experienced players can give more info about how Kleier works, but this gives you allready an idea.

Berre
