Nice little graphic you made up, despy.
:)

Back to the original question of this topic for a bit:

Why is it so hard to get a  ranked game on this site?

Lately, I have been feeling it is taking a longer time to get a match than previously. Does anyone else feel the same? I do not ever remember aborting a search because it took too long, but I have done exactly that three or four times recently. I will want to play a game at 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. GMT time and there seems to be no one available to play. I may have to wait 3 to 5 minutes even. For Hielco that may not be much but for me it's a long time. I usually get a game in 30 to 60 seconds.

It takes 10 minutes to get paired to a mere gold player. If I'm lucky I'll get paired to a low platinum multi account snitch

I've certainly noticed wait-times getting exponentially longer over the last few weeks, but I'm unsure if that's due to a situational change or a result of my ELO increasing.

Probably until low platinum, I never had to wait more than a minute or so. Now it's definitely longer - I don't think I've ever waited 10 minutes, only due to the fact that if I don't get a game in 2-3 minutes, I'll cancel and try again in a few minutes. I'm not sure if this is all in my head, but I find that when I'm matched up quickly, I usually get a platinum opponent, and when I'm matched up after a long wait, half the time it ends up being a silver player.

Anyone else experience a relationship between wait time and opponent rank?

Well that's inevitable as the system tries to match as near as possible in the first 2 minutes then widens the search.

You don't have to wait if you visit the challenge zone when Spartan Warriors are there!

Yeah, but that's no good, scottrussia, if he wants to play a ranked game.

As tobermoryx said, it is built into the programming to start with the close ranked players and then expand outward. A long wait could mean someone significantly higher or lower. Some time ago in the dim and distant past this was explained to us in the forum somewhere.

Ah ok, I didn't think the site would be sophisticated enough to have a dynamic time-dependent matching algorithm :)

It would certainly be nice if you could go online and see how many people of certain ranks are online. Then you would know if you could get a game quickly or not. Right now we have this very rough number of who's online but we don't know any details.

Of course, good ideas are like seeds on dry pavement here. Not much going to happen.

The site is dying because the admin do not take care of anything, improve anything, or care to do so. This website will soon be outpaced by Gravon, ect. What they do "focus" on (if you could call it that) is garbage, from the new app to online stratego battlecards. (???) There are many improvements that need to be made, and quickly, new ranking system, setup time improvements, etc, as you mention, but nothing will happen for a long time. Either whenever the site gets new ownership or the admin actually care for once, whichever happens first. Probably the former.

I'm always a winner- win or lose the game. I take my mistakes and learn from them!

... Think positive ... this site is not dying because MT and TC are there to animate it :) ... on gravon you only have a few regular players who only like to play between themselves and tend to denigrate the other players ... on stratego.com everybody is welcome (...except cheaters)

IMO, the Gravon site interface is too user unfriendly to ever become very popular.  Their website needs a major overhaul.  Going by Alexis website ranking stats Stratego.com is much, much more popular.

Global website ranking.  Lower number means higher ranking.

Stratego.com  :  222,640

Gravon.de:       8,205,458

I agree with you. Gravon's interface is ugly. However, the quality of games on Gravon is higher.
