The MT has ruled player nikolakis.patrik guilty of a 3rd degree abusive behavior violation in his game with Good7 and he will receive a warning letter and a one month ban pending administrative action.

I am reporting GRAPHIX. This player took 5:59 to set up (which means he/she hit the ready button) and then ran the buffer down to zero. He never made a move. It was clear that he/she simply initiated the game to stall and get me to either forfeit or disconnect. I have screen shots but I do not see the attachment button.

Another explanation, Rascal, is GRAPHIX simply forgot about the game.  I've had it happen to me and I've done it to others.  You open another window, get a phone call, get distracted, whatever, and by time you return to the game you realize you've lost.  My two cents: annoying but not a big deal.

John, I agree that this is a possibility. But the player clicked the I'm Ready Button at the very last second. This implies that he/she purposely waited. I also checked to see if this player has been reported in the past and he/she was reported in the Disconnecting losers (hall of shame).  Anyway, I just want to get this player on the record for this kind of behavior.

Moriarty - You are correct. This is why I added the detail of this player wasting 10 min of my time. This sort of behavior is ruining this site. You need at least 30 min to play this sort of game. If this is all the time you have to spare and some joker purposely wastes 10 min then you cannot play at all.

I agree it is likely when players take the full time to set up , to the last second , they are probably intending just to annoy the opponent. But as they are allocated that time they are not breaching any rules in using all of it , so they can't be investigated .

With the buffer going down to zero though maybe the player did have some genuine problems as usually the players who are known for this sort of thing will try to win the game if you wait for them to start.

You attach photos or documents at the bottom of the page by clicking the paperclip, on the "more options" editing page. Unfortunately, each item can only be 145 kilobytes. If you want to post something bigger than that, you'll have to use a web hosting service such as imgur.

difference between 1st degree, 2nd degree, and 3rd degree warnings?

You can have the best explanation here at the rules:
http://forum.strateg...rum-rules-2014/

In theory a 1st degree penalty should precede a 2nd degree which should precede a 3rd. But especially in cases of Abusive Behavior a certain amount of judgment comes into play. Often the MT will skip right to a 2nd and occasionally to even a 3rd, though we've never yet jumped straight to a 4th (permanent ban).

Wherever we start we proceed from there with successive penalties.

A new concept we've incorporated into our thinking since the 2014 ruleset is the idea of a sunset period for penalties. This means that if a violation is more than 12 months old it becomes null and void for purposes of ascertaining penalty levels. So, for example, a player with three abusive behavior penalties in the past twelve months; one each in March, April, and May; will be permanently banned with a fourth in the month we are now in (February 2016). But if he can abstain from any penalty to the end of March, his March 2015 penalty violation will fall off and only two penalties will remain if he should get another at that point. Then in April yet another penalty expires and he's down to 1. After May, he would be completely clean of penalties.

Hope this is clear.

Gaius, a case will be opened for you.

EDIT (an hour later): That funny little mark used is called an irony mark. It represents a challenge to me to replicate so we'll see.

Seems to have a grudge against you. Have you ever played him, or is he just an idiot who likes to insult people you think?

With deep regret I have to report a staller. Taking 15sec a move from the start with only one purpose as can be seen at http://imgur.com/9v3hvHI - abusive chat included aswell.

Vid recording can be found at: http://pmjn.nl/staller/

End screen: http://imgur.com/XGInULh

Request: Restoring 24 points - Feel free to do whatever MT feels is right regarding this guy.

EDIT: TheOptician ran into this guy aswell and experienced the same thing.

I don't have video evidence, but you can do a little maths on the figures.

There are 666 moves in the game which take 6997 seconds.

362 of these seconds are buffer time (281 belong to nikosritz)

Nikosritz's moves (333*15 seconds)  = 4995 seconds

My moves (333*4.92 seconds)  =  1638 seconds

This makes nikosritz's average move time, for the entire game - 15.84 seconds.

Clearly not a case of normal slow play, but a deliberate attempt to force the opponent to give in, from the outset, in a particularly torturous form of cheating known as 'surrender tactics'.

If a player was 'legitimately' slow playing, the actual buffer would have run down far quicker. Instead each move took between 15 and 16 seconds, every move.

I only endured this torture due to my immensely stubborn nature. I simply couldn't let this guy win. I hope that MT seriously considers stronger punishments to apply to this form of cheating (ELO inflation through surrender tactics).

I know you were joking :-)

But actually even if the system was reduced to (for example)

10 secs (turn buffer) - 7 mins (game buffer)

Then the 'Surrender Tactician' would take 11 seconds per go, and the game would still take over an hour.

So I don't believe that this is a buffer time issue, as any time system can be exploited on any system if someone desired.

I might add that I played as aggressively and quickly as I could (and the game still took 2 hours)!

The only proper deterrent for this behaviour is a proper punishment.
