In the new app there are changes happening because they are fixing things in it. Two things lately have been the disconnected/lost graveyards and the Abort Search/lost points problems.

It would be really nice to have chat transcript buttons so that players could produce, without a lot of screenshots, a long chat with an opponent they wanted to report. Or at least make this so the moderators could see game transcripts with a game ID.

The other thing that would be wonderful in the new app would be to fix the perennial problem of double chasing in the movement rules.

Some things that I'd like to see rectified in the NEW APP include:

1) The buffer time does not show constantly, only when running down. Aesthetics cannot be claimed for this. There's plenty of room for it at the top of the screen right where it is when it is counting down. Just show it there ALL the time.

1a) As The Prof requested for the web version today, it would be very nice for the NEW APP to have an audible sound ding at the one minute mark and maybe again at 30 seconds, then finally at the 10 second mark as well.

2) We should be able to chat with our friends in the new app. Right now we can only challenge them to a game; that's all. We cannot start conversations from the new app, or respond when one is begun by a friend.

3) The names of the players involved in the game should appear on the victory or defeat details pages. This is for proof during tournaments. The old web version even has this.

4) The GMT times/dates should be on ALL GAMESIDE SCREENS somewhere on the screen. This would assist Moderators in numerous cases. Also, no one who is on a wireless device can currently (to the best of my understanding) show a time stamp on their screenshots. This is a glaring weakness when they bring a case for moderation. A simple answer is to have the site just place the GMT time somewhere on the screen.

Mick, we also still need to change to wording when searching for a game and the computer is trying to match us up. Currently, it says "Searching Opponent". It should say "Searching for Opponent".

It couldn't be searching my opponent before the game, the guy always still has all those nasty bombs and the spy knife when I'm playing. If the game were searching my opponent, it should remove all those from his possession ahead of time....😊

The new app does one thing very nicely. The game plays very well on my phone and tablet. The old app did not allow one to play a game on the phone without using a magnifying glass to see the graveyards!

Allowing the game to turn portrait style and having a separate button for the graveyards make playing by the phone far better in the new app, though these changes could've been done in the old app also, I'd think.

Mick, everywhere on the site where the word "diffuse" is used, it should be spelled "defuse". Miners defuse bombs. They do not diffuse them. The mis-spellings are particularly common in the achievement area.

Another desirable thing, Mick, would be to give a basic reason for the win or loss on the victory/defeat details screen. "Captured opponent's flag", You have captured all movable pieces", "Your opponent has surrendered", and maybe "Your opponent had left the game".

Given the amount of responses from the side of the developers in this thread I have to say that your patience and persistence are pretty admirable, Gary ;)

Mick, I noticed tonight that in the new app when I was looking over my friends list, I noticed that the progress bar showing rank was empty once the player got into group 4. Below that, in all the others groups. there was a clear progress bar shown. The poor players beginning at 700 don't get that. It's a nicety.

Hi again, Mick. I just discovered something glaring about the new app tonight. There is no way to alter your setups outside of playing a game. Then you don't have much time. We need some kind of profile page for managing setups, just like the web browser currently has.

The following is a post I made elsewhere today.
________

In the new app, for the regular 40 piece game, it is not possible (at least on Android phones and tablets...not sure about Apple stuff) to make or edit a setup as can be done on the profile page on the web version. The only thing one can do in the new app on my devices is to edit and save a setup after one has chosen it when setting up for a real game. Of course, one's opponent is waiting during this time....

I personally have something like 20 setups that I've purchased on the web version so I don't want any more. The one thing I'd like to check is what happens when one buys a setup through the new app. Is it not usable prior to a game, the same as my other setups? I'll check this out some other time. It would be nice to know if the new app treats newly purchased setups any differently than existing ones.

The new app clearly needs a "Manage Setups" page.

In response to Moriarty elsewhere I made the following post today and wanted to repeat it here.
__________

The new app and I have been together now for around eight months now, since when I first got involved with it while helping to test it on Stratego Scouts voluntarily. Every day, at first, the link to return to the old wireless app was present. Then, at around six months ago the link disappeared and I was trapped into it, and they wouldn't even let me as a moderator back to the old app.

It really stunk starting out. I wanted to go back and the artwork of the new app bothered me greatly like it does everybody at first. But because I play almost exclusively on a wireless device I was forced to get used to it, I guess. And I suppose I have.

You can't talk with people in the new app except in BattleChat, not even your friends.

You cannot plan, create, or adjust your setups in the new app, except only under the pressure of your opponent waiting for you in a game.

There is no white writing at the bottom of the screen showing attacks just made.

It also doesn't show/list/say who one's opponent is on victory/defeat banners so is bad for proving tournament wins and intent to draw in draw refusal cases.

You can't change your "ready" status. Once you press "ready", you cannot unpress it. This is not so bad, but occasionally I've made a terrible mistake in pressing ready before loading my setup and I'm forced to play with the software's offered setup. (Usually this is disaster but was fun once. I got a setup with a lake bluff flag and won!)

The nicest thing about the new app is the fact it does play better on the phone where I'm at even more than my tablet. And by better I mean that it plays portrait style and so the pieces are far bigger. The old app was so tiny on a phone it was unusable.

Overall today in okay with the new app.
