Poll: 1-10 / 10-1 Piece Numberings? (18 member(s) have cast votes)

Do you play with American or European piece numberings?

  1. American (8 votes [44.44%] - View)

    Percentage of vote: 44.44%

  2. European (10 votes [55.56%] - View)

    Percentage of vote: 55.56%

If given a choice on piece numberings between "1-10" or "10-1", what would these two choices mean to you?

  1. 1-10 would be for American; 10-1 would be for European (15 votes [83.33%] - View)

    Percentage of vote: 83.33%

  2. 10-1 would be for American; 1-10 would be for European (3 votes [16.67%] - View)

    Percentage of vote: 16.67%

tomato123456, I believe the Europeans call the spy a 1. But I'm not sure on their actual pieces. Maybe someone who plays with them can comment. I just tried a quick battle (on new app) and indeed when you switch from 10-1 to 1-10, which you can do at will during a game in the new app, I see that the spy is always labeled with an "s" each way, not numbered with a 1 for the European mode.

At any rate I think it would make perfect sense to do as you said.

Gary, I am European but I have never seen a spy marked with a 1 instead of an S. On the old board game I used to play with as a kid there were just the icons shown on each piece without a number. These are the icons that are now referred to as classic in the app. The only time I saw numbers on the pieces before was when I played a Stratego computer game (by Accolade), which was Canadian (I think) and they used the 1-10 numbering (marshal=1). In any case it makes sense that the spy is not marked with a number in either numbering system in the new app, although the 10-1 and 1-10 indications are a bit ambiguous.

So instead of saying American/ European you are saying Gary they only say "10-1 or 1-10?

Yes, only " 1-10" or "10-1", and it could be improved for clarity in my opinion. The previous few posts have contained some good ideas.

tomato123456, you're European? That's a surprise to me. I would've bet American for sure.

This poll has not been clear to anyone apparently, I'm sorry.

It concerns the choice the developers have made in the new app. Do you agree with it? If you haven't used the new app let me explain it to you.

What they have done is call the "10-1" pieces American and the "1-10" ones European. Is this sensible/intuitive to anyone?

Not at all.

WINNER of the first ever Astros Stratego Series! :D
