I notice that some people have a photo as their avatar. Are these members logging in through Facebook?
Or can anyone use a photo as their avatar?
Also, if it is through Facebook, does it change as your Facebook profile picture changes?

Wuf!

I notice a small percentage of people have custom avatars in the game. I'm wondering how this is possible, because there doesn't seem to be an option to upload one in-game (even for battlecoins).

Some insight would be helpful, thanks. :)

That's what I mean by "Avatar", Blkdog. The little picture just below your name in the game and on the forums.

It's a shame it (appears to be) facebook only, though...

gyrados, I think it is an option only for moderators. Probably the reasoning for this is to squelch down on questionable images that could be uploaded. Yes we can introduce our own images from Facebook, that's true. I'm not much on that venue but perhaps Facebook does monitoring of this that the site designers here felt trustworthy?

I will send you a pm on how it works for me to change my forum avatar.

Yes gyrados I understood what you meant. I guess I should have worded by question more clearly.

As your Facebook profile picture changes, does it also change on Stratego?

It would be nice if you could upload your own picture that will be shown after moderator confirmation. It should be at the cost of batle coins probably so the moderators don't have too much work with this. My Facebook does not connect due to some error of an already existing account, even though I don't have any other accounts. But even when you don't want to connect through Facebook you should be able to do this :)

yes it would be good if moderators could just verify the avatars before uploading. Same thing for account names ... this would avoide to have some offensive names popping up. We don't need to verify all accounts avatars on the game side as these are automatically checked by facebook before they are uploaded in the game. We would need only to verify those of the forum members.

You could also set up a policy of an X-post minimum for the forum. These first posts would require review by MT before going live until the threshold is met. Seems a (manageable but palpable) number of recent new members either post errantly/accidentally in wrong forum, or, are trolling.

Unfortunately they revert back to the old one every time I sign in and out, which is every so often. I have to continually fix it at those times.

I do like Mitthunder's idea. Just let a moderator approve the image. Good idea. I'll add that to a thread of mine.

I like mitt's idea as well. It would be great for us regular users to upload custom avatars of our own, provided it goes through some kind of approval system. It feels weird to me that the users connected through Facebook can do this with seemingly no moderation on their avatar choice.

Like Napoleon said, Facebook has its own filter. So anything you can upload on Facebook should be ok here.

It does? Admittedly I'm not aware as I don't use Facebook, but I was under the impression anything was allowed until an inappropriate picture got reported.

It is done by an automatic filter, not manually. You can report pictures that slip through the net.

If you go to Google images you can select 'safesearch' on or off. It's the same thing.

I could give an example of what to search for to show how effective the filter is, but I will have to refrain. ;)

I think you can change your photo with Facebook, but I know mods get to change their pictures without Facebook.

There was a brief conversation going on in the mod chat thread that inspired me to start another poll. See it in General Discussion at New Avatar Choice Preferences?
