Hello all Stratego fans and players!

We wanted to share an update with you so everybody knows where we stand and what we all can expect the following months.

As some of you know the original Stratego crew has moved a little to the background.
Although all of them are still in the company there has been a shuffle.
The reason is that we all want to take the brand Stratego to the next step.

The Stratego Multiplayer game is definitely a big part of that.
But there are other important products that also need attention.
The Single player version for example (currently only available in iPhone) is really outdated and does not fit the quality of the brand anymore. So we are focussed and committed to create a great new version of that game that will attract both existing and new players, young and old.

As we love Stratego so much we want it to be here for decades.
For this the youngsters also need to interact with the brand.

What does this imply for the Multiplayer version.
We changed the head of community management to Esther. She will be the main contact.
Outside the forum there is a really good conversation going with the global moderator team to investigate the most important tweaks / fixes and updates.
Before we can do anything this needs to be clear. Their cooperation is awesome and there already is a strong list of important improvements wishes like: Automatic anti double chase, Select minimum ELO rank.
Having these wishes is one. Investigating if these are doable in the software is two.
And actually implementing them is three.
The new people of the Stratego team first need to understand the code base. And that takes time. Especially if you know it’s only a very small team working on multiple products.

After the code base is picked up and analysed we can investigate if the improvements are doable and estimate the time needed for implementation.

In the mean time we keep supporting the game and try to offer a smooth experience on all devices, iOS, Android and Online.

Hope you enjoy playing Stratego!
We sure do and we are working hard with a very committed team to create the best Stratego experience out there.

Cheers!

Stratego Crew

Sounds good. And thanks for the update. But I have to say, most of the problems on the site are technical - disconnects, lag, double chasing . . . this has to be the main emphasis. I honestly don't think anyone cares about playing against the computer.

I really hope you guys are serious about improving the site. It's long overdue.

The site, together with the forum will get a complete graphical overhaul. On the technical side, the website will also be much better.

As for the Multiplayer-game; as stated before, we have plans to look into that, but it's not yet on our planning.

We are now working on a Singleplayer that will be much more than "playing against the computer" ;)

disconnects, lag, double chasing . . .

Chewtoy has a point... as the Stratego family is growing it really does seem the server gets overloaded and can't handle it anymore. We're getting more and more reports about this lately. I'm sure we can work on this now admin is back though :)! I'm looking forward on working with Esther and Mick.

Esther, Mick, welcome on board of the most exciting game on line.

I am very pleased finaly a team will put some effort in this site.
When I read your message well the first item on your list is to improve the single player game.
I like that, because the the level of the computer is that low, Stevie Wonder will win all his games against it. It is to predictable and when big pieces are expected they do not show up. No way for Gary Shelton and me to improve our play.

However, I think most players out here are waiting for improvements of the multiplayergame and, as Chewtoy mentioned, and myself in another topic (This site is going down), we need technical Improvements. If we are not able anymore to log in at once, but try and retry, players wil be leaving.
So I am asking to put that as highest priority on your list.

Thanx

Lucky

Rest assured; we are well aware of the problems you've been having with the Multiplayer. But because of the transfer of data/resources and our planning, we are unable to work on those problems right now. We do have plans for them, in the future.

I do feel for the players who's experience is poor because of those bugs and I think it would be best to fix that.

As for priorities, our highest priority is launching the new Stratego Singleplayer (which will be more than just a singleplayer), work on the community and website and take care of the Intellectual Property that is Stratego.

After this, we have plans to take a look at the Multiplayer.

Welcome and good luck to all issues .The number of players here are by far the largest as well as the problems ....

The number of the player isn't a problem at all.

It's just that with the upcoming Singleplayer, we will be targetting not only Stratego-fans, but everyone else in the world. That would mean an increase in players :)

Great news!

The ''select minimum ELO'' option would be so good. I heard many people complain about it. :)

The number of the player isn't a problem at all.

The number of players is becoming a significant problem atm, as during 17:00-22:30 the server hardly is able to handle the load. Most players are European and play during our evening. Logging in and loading takes about 3-4 minutes, if it actually is possible at all. So don't state the number of players is not a problem.

Furthermore, for now please consider immediately increasing the disconnect timeout from 2:30 to about 5-6 minutes, as instantly trying to reconnect takes about 3-4 minutes under heavy load, making it actually an infeasible and worthless timeout value.

This is a very quick win as a temporary solution until the server is able to handle more or a distributed server system is developed, as this is only about changing a single constant parameter/variable. However, a lot of people have a lot of losses due to this. 5 minutes of work with many people benefiting = quick win.

And quick wins is what you need atm. Increasing your target audience while the server is hardly able to handle the load is like signing your own death.

And, like a lot of people here mention: please reconsider priorities, as the 'hard core' of Stratego players is tempted to migrate (back to Gravon / metaforge). Solving this legally by addressing Intellectual Property will only frustrate your 'clients' and would ruin the game.

As a (web) software developer myself I know fixing bugs hardly ever receives the highest priority due to various reasons, but in this case, it is REALLY worth reconsidering priorities.

Mick, define future if possible. Are we talking weeks, months, years or decades. Think more people are curious how long it will take to improve the multiplayergame.

Thanx.

This effort reeks of something suspicious. Nobody cares about Single player (or wants it to be anything more). I come to this site to play the best players around (since I live in the US and no one knows about Stratego or cares - - at least not in my state). The emphasis on Single player is quite misplaced and makes me believe that meaningful improvements to the site aren't forthcoming.

Again, please focus on Multiplayer. This site needs CRITICAL improvements. Not cosmetic changes that do not enhance my experience here.

I hope the powers-that-be prove me wrong. But it seems as though the agenda is not based in reality.

Graphics and single player. They're trying to attract new players, which equals sales, and ignoring the current players. Same old story.

Please know that are are fully aware of the issues the current Multiplayer has. We still accept bug-reports and feedback, but we are aware of the main problems.

As much as we want to fix this, it is currently not as high on our agenda as launching the Singleplayer.

As I've stated before, we made this choice because there is still an ongoing transfer of data/resources because the company I work at too over the IP of Stratego. As such, it's not that simple I'm affraid.

I also completely understand that your hearts lie with this game because you have played it for so long. Do know that we have not forgotten about you. If we did not care, we would not be having this conversation ;)

Another reason for starting with the Singleplayer, is to open Stratego up to a wider audience. The specific features of the Singleplayer will be revealed in time. (To prevent misunderstandings: We know everything, but telling you everything would completely ruin the excitement and hype... it's a marketing thing ;) )

As for gamebreaking-bugs; submit them to us when you have the chance and we will see where we can fit it into our planning.

Luckypapa, in terms of time, I cannot and will not give a statement on this at this point.

Desert Oasis, attracting new players and expanding the community is not a bad thing. Why not let everyone enjoy the wonderful game that is Stratego?

Also, please remember: we are not ignoring you. Ignoring you would mean me not being here posting in this topic ;)

Hey Mick and Esther, what would it cost to have some emphasis placed on the multiplayer aspect of the site? Some players have voiced a willingness to pay a monthly due to accomplish this, including myself.

I didn't say attracting new players is a bad thing, but i am more interested in playing an improved multiplayer site then playing against new players under the current multiplayer system. I have no interest in single player. The AI will never be as unpredictable, exciting, and fun, as playing against a real person. The graphics on this site are good and are far ahead of the substance on this site. I realize that this site doesn't charge and exists to promote stratego sales, hence my previous post.

I understand, but as some may like the current Multiplayer system, we believe many more will like the upcoming Singleplayer system. Our developers have created the best AI any Stratego-game has ever seen.

This being said, looking at the big picture, our ultimate goal is to have multiple Stratego games and give all of them the same amount of love :)

Playing an Al can not be that exciting that it will beat the real personexperience.
Most players want to compete each other and see their account climb on the (ranked) ladder.

But, I challenge you to surprise us all ;-).

Good luck with your mission! Feed back from all the players enough in the future, because we all love this game and want to help you to get it better and better.

Regards,

Lucky
