Hi Max, great job again!
But I am surprised you lost this one. maybe because all of your other video's have a happy ending? ;)

If I may say so, I think you had to win this game. In the final phase his major is on your site of the board threatening your scout. Your miner is coming in the middle. Why didn't you take out his bomb behind the lake and exchange miners? He only had left a colonel (his mayor was on your ground). You could come in with the scout. You knew the right piece in the back row is a bomb. If he has an open flag it is unusual to place it not behind the lake because a scout can easily take the flag.
So, bring in the scout and he has to choose with his colonel. When he moves his colonel, your miner at the left could take his remaining pieces (bomb and flag)

Maybe I am overlooking something, then tell me, so I can learn from it.
I love your style of playing!

Looking forward to the next one.

Lucky

Hi Lucky!

I don't get what you are saying, so let me try to clarify it for you:

I had my scout on the right side, he didn't know wheater it was a scout or a miner, i wanted it to keep it that way. By hitting his bomb behind the lake with my miner, he would know, the piece was a miner. And there was nothing i could do to change that.

My biggest mistake in the game was that i forgot he had a major left. When i walked on his major with my miner, i was really surprised because i forgot he had one, if this didn't happen, i would have had an extra miner and would have won the game.

In this situation, tell me, how would i have done this? There was no way my miner could get past his miner, because he obviously wouldn't let me. So miners would be traded and then the situation would be that i can take the draw, or take the 50/50 change on winning. Now i will always take those chances, although it might not be that smart..

Edit:

Most of my videos have a happy ending yes! But if people want to learn, they have to watch people make mistakes too. I think this game was well interesting, therefore i uploaded it.

Max, thanks for another beautiful game!

@Lucky, indeed it looks like it could be a winning move if Max have exchanged Miners immediately and after that put his Scout diagonally from the opponent's Colo... But it is easy to be a general after the battle :) Can tell for myself that I'm too often making bigger mistakes than this one... :)

Hey Max,

It was not meant to criticize Max :) , but I analyzed the game and after that I was surprised you lost.

You ask us what we think, so I wrote down my opinion. As a general after the battle.

I would have done what I wrote and what WileEPirate wrote. Take a shot on the piece in the middle.

I agree with you that wether you win or lose, from both you can learn a lot, maybe even more of a lost match.

What I wrote about I was surprised you published a lost game is meant as a little joke. Hope you are not upset about it  ;) .

What I said before: Keep making those video's, I like them, I enjoy them and I learn from them!

It should be very nice when other topplayers (Enigma, Nortrom, S-NL, Playa1, Sohal,..... ) will do the same!

Bye the way, congratulations with your win in the tournament.

Lucky

Hi Max.  Finally watched the whole thing.  You did well. This is the first I've seen in awhile.  The last ones I saw were speeded up, but this one was at real time pace.  Did you do that on purpose?  It was kind of neat to watch it at normal speed, but it took so very much longer obviously.  One thing I've learned from you watching these games is to never give up.  Even until the very end, I would have thought you were going to win this game.  WileEPirate said what I think.  If you could've just positioned the scout better after he divulged his miner, but that's easy to say now.

I wish you'd have traded majors toward the end there.  But it looked like you almost guess right with it!

One other thing about these videos that is neat is the "Max doodling".  I like to watch your thinking with your mouse almost as much as your real move.  Your little "squeeglies" and ponderings are as educational as anything.  I was thinking right along with you.  It was kind of a test for my move logic, I felt.

Gary

Hello to all again!

Thanks for all the kind words and criticism. I think i get what the criticism was about now. I could have won this game if i had gotten to his flag, the point was, that i believed his flag wasn't there! So what i was trying to do, was figure out how to get to attack both the pieces which where unknown for me.

@ Luckypapa

I didn't feel insulted in any way, so i am sorry i made you feel that way. :) I was just curious to what i did wrong there.

@ GaryLShelton

First, i didn't speed up my other games. All my games which are on youtube are in normal game speed, the reasoning behind it is exactly as you said: Try to get people to think with you. Pointing at pieces with the mouse and then pointing on what piece i would think it is, gives insight in my thought and i am glad you like that!

@ Kienzan

Thank you, that's what i am doing it for!

@ Aube

They where great!

You are right, max could've played in such a way that would have enabled him to pick which piece he thought was the flag when his opponents major was in bad position. However, to be honest, I think if I was in that position and I wanted to gamble, it would have been hard not too have picked the same piece max did. A lot of times silver players like to be tricky, and will avoid obvious looking flag spots. Ulfbehrt's flag spot was very "obvious looking," you might say. So obvious that it ended up having the reverse effect, making it less believable.
