Dear Stratego fans,
Registration period for Autumn Stratego Tournament is now declared open, you are invited to read the rules below and register right after.
1) Sign up period, start time and schedule of the tournament:
- Eligible players (see Rule 2) can signup until October 3rd 20.59 GMT right below in this topic
- The tournament will start after the tournament bracket has been made public. A bracket model can be found here: http://i.imgur.com/QPStk9W.jpg
- Each Round of the tournament has a strict curfew, so there will be no delays (see Rule 3). First round matches can be arranged with the earliest starting time being October 6th, 06.00 GMT
2) Who is eligible to play?
All players ranked Bronze Captain or higher as per their ELO ranking on October 3rd 20.59 GMT are welcome but only one (1) account per household ISP may enter the tournament. If someone tries to participate with 2 or more accounts and is caught, he/she will be disqualified from the tournament and can be banned from future tournaments.
3) Arranging a tournament game:
Every Sunday night (GMT time), the first time on Sunday october 5th, the tournament bracket will be completely updated and all remaining participants can see who they will face in their next game. Each player will then have to post at least 3 valid (see Rule 4) time slots in which he/she can play in the forum topic corresponding to his game number. Please pay extra attention to the curfew mentioned in Rule 4d. If for whatever reason no arrangements are made or the game doesn’t take place Rules 6, 7 and 8 will apply.
4) When is a proposed game arrangement time slot valid?
The first 3 proposed times slots are only valid when they fulfill all of these conditions:
a) the first 3 proposed time slots must be posted no later than Tuesday 23.59 GMT in the match arrangement topic that will be made available by the Tournament Committee each Sunday after the updated bracket is announced;
b ) the time slots must be in GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). For help to find your time difference from GMT visit http://www.greenwichmeantime.com
c) time slots are using the 24 hour clock (so NO am/pm proposals);
d) the starting time of the slots have to be between Monday 06.00 GMT and the following Saturday 23.59 GMT;
e) the First 3 proposed time slots can not be between 00.00 GMT and 06.00 GMT;
f) each of the First 3 proposed time slot consist of at least a 2 hour window to start the game. For example: proposing Tuesday 20.00-22.00 GMT, means a player is available to start a game from 20.00 and his latest possibilty to start the game is 22.00 GMT.
If you want to propose more than 3 time slots you are very welcome to do so and as long as the first 3 time proposals all fullfill the conditions mentioned above (a-f) you are free to propose all further timeslot without fullfilling conditions a,b, e and f (so still fullfilling conditions c and d).
5) When is a game considered “arranged”?
A game is considered arrangened if both players confirm the date and time of a game in the corresponding match arrangement topic.
6) What happens if there are no valid game arrangements?
a) The participant that does not post at least 3 valid time slots proposals (Rule 4) by Tuesday 23.59 GMT following the Sunday of the announced updated bracket (Rule 4 sub a) will lose 1 point (for points and the value/usage of them see Rule 12). The (other) player that DID post at least 3 valid time slots has to make sure now that these proposals are possible or adjust them so that there will be 3 valid proposals again (Rule 6 b.)
Also THIS player can propose an extra valid timeslot for following Sunday, which will be used in case no game is arranged / played until curfew time of Saturday 23.59 GMT (see Rule 7). This Sunday game proposal must have a starting time between 08.00 GMT and 14.00 GMT.
b. The participant that does not post at least 3 valid time slots proposals (Rule 4) by Friday
23.59 GMT following the Sunday of the announced updated bracket will lose (another) 1 point (for points and the value/usage of them see Rule 12).
Players can still decide to play the game before the curfew of Saturday 23.59 GMT
7) What happens if the game has not been arranged before curfew time?
Curfew each week is Saturday 23.59 GMT. If the game has not been arranged and / or played by then, the Tournament Committee will set the starting time of the game the next day (Sunday). If a player provided a(n) (extra) time slot according to Rule 6a the starting time will be set according to that. If no Sunday time slot was proposed the starting time of the game will be at Sunday 14.00 GMT.
8) What happens if a player does not show up at the arranged time?
In case a player does not appear in the challenge room within 15 minutes after the arranged time the other player must make a post in results topic, in which he will report it to the Tournament Committee (attaching a screenshot for proof). Not showing for a game results in automatic disqualification. This also means the disqualified player will end the Tournament with zero (0) points (Rule 16). The other player will be announced as the winner of the game and progresses in the tournament
9) Requirements when playing a game
All games must be played as unranked games, which means that players have to meet in the chat room “challenge zone” and after accepting each other as "friend" they can challenge in unranked battle. If there is problem and someone is not able to arrange a friendly game ( because there is bug) please consult a member of the Tournament Committee
10) Results of a game: winning a game and proving it or having a tie/draw
There are two ways of proving you won your tournament game:
a) The winner is advised to make a legit and readable screenshot of the victoryscreen and post it in the forum in the results topic or send it in an E-mail to the Tournament Committee. If you do not know how to make a screenshot and post it please visit this link: http://forum.strateg...ad-screenshots/. Here is an example of how the screenshot should look as minimum: http://i.imgur.com/5SuDza4.jpg
b ) The winner posts in the results topic that he won and the loser of the game confirms this. The Tournament Committee can demand a confirmation within a curtain timeframe.
If there is no proof as provided in ways mentioned under a or b it will nullify the match and the match will be declared a draw/tie, meaning another game arrangement must be made according to the rules for arranging games.
When a tournament game results in a draw/tie, there needs to be an immediate rematch,unless both particpiants agree to play the game at another set time and both post this agreement on the forum. Also proof of the results needs to be provided in the results topic a mentioned (under a. and b.) meaning either a screenshot or both players confirming the result.
11) Tournament type
This tournament is set up as a random drawn single elimination tournament. This means that once you lose a game you are out. There is no maximum set for the amount of participants, which may lead to some players receiving a bye in the first round.
The drawing will be done using a key on the list of participants based on their moment of registering for this tournament. This method will be explained in the post right below.
12) Rewards / Prizes for all participants and future use!
All Participants will receive valuable Tournament Ranking Points by joining this tournament. The only exception are players that get disqualified, they end up with zero (0) points no matter how many matches they won (Rule 16).
Tournament Ranking Points: Participants earn tournament ranking points (TRP) depending on how well they do in this event. These points will be used for future tournaments. The next tournament will be a division tournament with players going to divisions based on their Total TRP won this year. The 12 highest pointgetters of 2014 will be invited to join Division 1 and battle it out among eachother to become The Stratego Master 2014. The next Group of players will be in Division 2 playing their own tournament, the following group in Division 3 playing their own tournament at the same etc. The detailed explanations for following tournaments and program 2015 can be read soon in a separate topic at the forum.
Points to be won during the Autumn 2014 Elimination Tournament:
# 1 : 60 points (winner)
# 2 : 45
# 3- 4: 35
# 5 -8: 25
# 9-16: 15
# 17-32 : 8
# 33-64 : 5
# >65 : 3
In case of number of players >128, the points distribuition might be slightly revised.
13) System Bugs
If a player experiences a system bug that forces him to leave the match with no ability to return within the two minutes and thirty second time limit, the other player can claim victory by taking a screen shot of the victory screen. There is one EXCEPTION: if a player is booted from the game during the setting up of the pieces, the game must be restarted since there is no victory screen shown at that point of the game.
14) Draw Refusual
If a game is a clear draw and one side refuses to the draw, the person who requested the draw must take at least two time stamped screen shots (at least 10 minutes apart) of the match and label what they believe to be each of the opponents pieces (if known). The Tournament Committee will determine if the game was winnable to the side that refused the draw or if they were just stalling. If the TC decides it was just stalling there can be a disqualification of that player for unsportsmanlike conduct and the player who requested the draw will advanced to the next round. It is encouraged that, if you believe you have the right to decline the draw requests, to take screen shots and show why you believe you did not have to accept the draw request(s).
15) Abusive Behaviour
Any abusive behavior at the table or in the forum will not be tolerated. Players who are victim to such abuse are encouraged to take screen shots and report the player. The Tournament Committee can disqualify abusive players from this tournament and future events.
16) Consequences of Disqualifications
If a player is disqualified that player will receive zero (0) points for this tournament. This will have a big influence on participating in future tournaments as for example the next tournamentis only open to people who scored points in 2014
17) Tournament Committee members and judging
Tournament Committee members can participate in this tournament but those members can not judge / vote on any cases that come up during the Tournament. Only Committe members that don’t play can.The Judges may consult external specialists for specific cases.
The Tournament Committee consists of Napoleon 1er (Judge – not playing), The Maestro (Judge – not playing), DarthRemark (playing) and Dekaeneas-Spy (playing)
All decisions made by the Tournament Committee are final.
18) When you sign up you acknowledge that you have read the rules and you accept them
