It would really be extra nice to have a pictorial listing of all the different emblems and what ranks they mean alongside, or within, NTactical's listing of the ranks and their ELO ranges.  I don't think I've ever seen that anywhere.

You mean small icons next to the rank names? No problem, will update the pictures soon then!

This is great! Thanks. I have always wanted to know what some of the emblems out there meant. I know the ones around my own rank, but that has always been about it. This is a simple, quick reference guide.

That was a good call by Waterfall on the small boo boo, and I guess you have to abide by that since it is the real, actual deal. However, that doesn't preclude its changing sometime down the road whenever Jumbo gives us programmers again. Then maybe they could see it your way to change that one little thing.

Thanks,

Gary

I am new to this site and game.

It seems to me you have problems with rank and such.

If your site would re-set the ranks every month or 2 or 3etc  it would make playser re ascend the ladder.

this would force your top ranked players to play more and make for teaching lower ranked players.

my solution seems simple,  but may work.

not without the crying and sorrow of the higher ranked players.

But I am not in charge  just a thought

I hope the ELO for gold and platinum are brought down so someone can reach it...

And I don't like the fact that if you are 50% in games you are basically a bronze spy.

I was surprised when playing a game to find the opponent's flag in the front row. I would think guarded by bombs in the back row would make more sense.

All the developers would have had to do to get an accurate idea of the potential range in ELO from best player to worst would be to look at a Metaforge ranking list:  For example, this one http://metaforge.net...p?startIndex=-1 shows the top player at 2334 and bottom player at 1197 (The starting point for a new player I believe was 1300 and you could go down from there).  The difference between top and bottom in this example is 1137.  This would have been a good reference to use as the difference between bronze spy and platinum marshal.  I could have told the developers from the beginning that the Gold and Platinum leagues would not become populated, and others predicted this early on as well.

Many times in the past I suggested using Chess ratings from 1100 to 2600+ and instead of having only a title for each unit and like in Chess Grandmaster at 2600+, we would just say Marshal and if you were under 1100 you  would be a Spy.  I believe the starting rating at Chess is 1500 with 20 games of provisional play to build up a rating.

But keep in mind that Stratego and Chess differ in that there is a degree of luck in our game.  The consequence of this is that the difference in ELO between the best player and a new player will always be smaller in Stratego than in Chess.

Hi,

Since the rank boundaries have been changed, my original analysis is not applicable anymore.

I've observed the new boundaries, and they are much more straightforward: 20 points for every new rank. So the full list becomes:

100-120: Bronze Spy
120-140: Bronze Scout
140-160: Bronze Miner
160-180: Bronze Sergeant
180-200: Bronze Lieutenant
200-220: Bronze Captain
220-240: Bronze Major
240-260: Bronze Colonel
260-280: Bronze General
280-300: Bronze Marshall
300-320: Silver Spy
320-340: Silver Scout
340-360: Silver Miner
360-380: Silver Sergeant
380-400: Silver Lieutenant
400-420: Silver Captain
420-440: Silver Major
440-460: Silver Colonel
460-480: Silver General
480-500: Silver Marshall
500-520: Gold Spy
520-540: Gold Scout
540-560: Gold Miner
560-580: Gold Sergeant
580-600: Gold Lieutenant
600-620: Gold Captain
620-640: Gold Major
640-660: Gold Colonel
660-680: Gold General
680-700: Gold Marshall
700-720: Platinum Spy
720-740: Platinum Scout
740-760: Platinum Miner
760-780: Platinum Sergeant
780-800: Platinum Lieutenant
800-820: Platinum Captain
820-840: Platinum Major
840-860: Platinum Colonel
860-880: Platinum General
880-99999: Platinum Marshall

I can't say I like this, for one it takes away the challenge in my 'who becomes the next silver general?" thread. Also, all 51 platinum marshals are now looked at as equally skilled by many players. Of course there is the score but if the highest badge is already reached at 880 it takes away a huge chunk of feeling of accomplishment for the very best. You are cheapening the value of the medals too drastically imo. My silver lieutenant badge feels fake. I didn't earn this. If it stays put, players will get used to it but the feeling remains the same. Much better would have been a system that rewards more points if you beat high silvers for the players at the very top. That makes it possible to climb up. But anyway I'm happy updates are finally coming! Hopefully bug fixes are next.

880-99999: Platinum Marshall

So 99,999 is the limit? Hielco can you check if this is true?  :P

So 99,999 is the limit?

That is the value the dev's have set into the application, not a random guess; so yes, this is true!  ^_^  I guess if one were to surpass that value, his rank name and rank logo would become empty or something as nothing has been defined for it.

I like the recalibration of the ranks to utilize the Gold and Platinum leagues, and I like the constant difference between successive ranks.  However, this difference should have been 25, not 20!  In my opinion 880 is too low for the site's highest honor, as 51 accounts are currently designated as Platinum Marshal.  With a difference of 25 instead of 20 we would have the following:

Bronze: 100 to 349

Silver: 350 to 599

Gold:  600 to 849

Platinum:  850+

Platinum marshal would be reached at 1075, and we would currently have one Platinum marshal, two generals, and three colonels.

Looks like they've gone overboard on this one. It's great that Platinum is being put to use but there are so many players with the highest rank now.

I like The Profs suggestion of 25.

25 would make platinum fairly hard to reach, but not unachievable, so the elite players would get in platinum and the Elite of the Elite would be the only platinum marshals
